Oil Pressure Fluctuation

Is it normal for the oil pressure to drop to 20lbs (second mark on the guage) after engine warm up at idle? My gasoline Dodge pressure held pretty steady. The oil pressure on this CTD moves between the two inside marks on the guage ???

Re:Oil Pressure Fluctuation

I think thats normal. Mine does it too. A couple of months ago there was a lot of discussion on this.

After I bought it, I thought that DC finally put in a real guage and not the typical idiot light/guage that reads normal no-matter-what. Someone here said that the guage movement was actually programmed into the ECM by DC to mimic what really happens (pressure differences @ different rpms and temps). I'm not sure I buy off on that explanation, but I'm also not worrying about it.

On edit: I also think he said its written in the manual like that. I never did go look for the exact wording.

Re:Oil Pressure Fluctuation

There has been quite a bit of discussion about the idiot light oil pressure gauge on another board. Basically, the service manual states that the oil pressure gauge will move once 6 psi of pressure is reached. The needle moved is programmed to best respond to what the customer expects to see based on engine temperature. I know, it sounds really stupid but that's what it says in the service manual.
