gauge lights tap in spot? -answered!

Put the gauges in saturday, but have been unsuccessful at finding a spot to tap in to the dash lights. Thought I had the perfect spot with the wire coming right off the light swith itself - but it didn't work. Anyone have a good spot ????

Previous years have had good luck tapping the ashtray light or cupholder light.

Don't know if you even have the cupholder light, but you should still have the ashtray light.

phox

Chalk that up to yet another cost cutting measure by DC.

(rear inner fender liners, ignition key halo, hood insulation, tailgate trim, under hood work light and can't remember the rest of them)

You could try tracing the actual instrument cluster lights and tap into one of them?

Perhaps the radio illumination wire (would definitaly need a wiring diagram though).

phox

Re:gauge lights tap in spot?

Had a quick look in my '03 wiring manual. If this helps, there are three possibilities. Panel lamps, driver, pin 19 on the instrument cluster, wire color orange/dark blue. Courtesy lamp, driver, pin 3 on the insrument cluster, wire color brown. Panel lamps, driver, pin 6 on the instrument cluster, wire color orange/yellow. All wire sizes #20.
Have not checked my vehicle or followed thru on the circuit in the manual, so the above is only a rough guide. Let us know if any of the above works for you.

After review of the wiring diagrams - I found the perfect wire.
It is off the light switch itself - there are 6 wires coming out, the orange with white tracer is the one to use. If you take the lower dash front (below steering wheel) you can get to the group of six coming off the switch. Works perfectly with the dimmer control ;D

mister illuminated
