Angry Oh I am MAD!!! Dented my tailgate...

Well I put about a quarter size dent in my tailgate. The dent is up around the edge where the tailgate protector overlaps onto the outside of the gate. The paint didn't come off and the protector covers the dent for the most part. But I know it is there! And that ticks me off! So I have to fix it or get a new gate. It will tick me off everytime I see it if I don't.

Anyone had any success in fixing dents in vehicle sheet metal. I know there is dent wizards and that type of thing. The dent reminds me of hail damage except maybe a little deeper.

I would appreciate any advice on how to fix the dent. Thanks.

Dont worry about the one dent cause soon it will multiply and you will have more. I get most of mine from lift truck drivers who don't understand what the word stop means. I've started taking the tailgate off before I let a lift truck driver load or unload my truck.

It's a TRUCK! Now it's got character.

If someone spots that small a dent you really know they like the truck.

I have'nt seen a tailgate yet that did'nt have a dent in it soon or later. Except mine, because it came off as soon as I got the truck home from the dealer.
Put a fifth wheel tail gate on it & yes it's got a dent in it because my eyes just aren't as good as they use to be.
note to self: make sure landing gear is down far enough before pulling out from under the 5vr.

Take it to one of those dent guys. You would be surprised at what they can do for $50.

I feel your pain! My 04 has a dent that led me to stick a "Cummins Powered" chrome/plastic logo over it. Covered it nicely. There are also other tailgate protecters (dent hiders) available. Really, a dent just gives it character (like bullet holes and scars)!

my wife accidently put one in mine. it was really my fault. i left the jack handle up on my utility trailer and was parked at an angle to the trailer. she let the tailgate down onto the jack handle and poof there's a dent. made me sick.

took it to the dent doctor and they pulled it out in about 10 mins. you would never even know it was there. i mean i really can't tell where it was. best $50 i have spent in a long time.

i wish i could just let it go but i am way too ****. it looks like it came off the showroom floor.

man i need to get a life

t-7 firefighter...

You sound like me! I just can't stand having a dent in my new truck! And I use it as a truck too! I am just really careful. Except for today....

My theory is that a dented vehicle attracts more dents. So I gotta nip it in the bud before more pop up! I am liking the sound of the dent doctors or dent wizards. I have heard they work wonders. I would be more than happy to pay 50 smackers if they can knock my blunder out of my pride and joy. Thanks for the help guys! This is really a great site!

well i have a few scratches down my box from a conopy dropping and sliding down it.(not very pretty) So i hear you about your dent. my thing i would worry about is if it might rust other wise try to brush it off and just dont loo at it. that doesnt help but after a while i think it will grow on you

My tailgate was perfect! Then I bought a GN trailer with an adjustable neck (Dumbest invention ever!) well I had a load of trees on it one night heading to Atlanta I heard a thump once pulling out of a truckstop. Didn't pay any attention since I didn't hear it again. Well I unloaded the trees and was headed home getting fuel I noticed the neck on my trailer was awfully close to my tailgate. The neck on my trailer has 2 bolts with lock nuts that you loosen up to adjust it that is not very good engineering. As soon as I got home I got the neck where I wanted it and drilled a 1/2 in. hole through the neck and put a pin through it now no more worries. It dented my tailgate in the center about an inch deep. I think I could cover it up with a protector but I pulled it off and put it in the garage. It was just a matter of time before I pulled out from under it and forgot to put down the tailgate.

Berry where it gets more interesting is when the adjuster bolts start twisting off in the tube. I finally got a 5/8 bolt long enough and drilled right through both sides of the tubes and bolted it solid. With the three axle I have to have it just right or either the front or rear axle will lock brakes, they have to be level when empty. With no bed, I could easly lower it a bit, but due to the axles I can't. Also the ramps are too high when lowered.
