Odometer Tampering

Anyone know how I can tell if my mileage has been played with? I mean is it possible for a dealer to mess with it?

Anything is possible, you can try a carfax, and have another dealer run a VIP summary for you. Past that, I do not know if there is data buried in the PCM as well.

I do know this, they report mileage on vehicles whenever there is title work, or they go into a Dealership.

Based on what I've heard in the past, the actual mileage is stored in the PCM as well as in the cluster. So a dealer should be able to look at the mileage stored in the computer to compare it to the value displayed on the odometer.

the only time mileage is reported at the dealership is when there is warranty work (or title work). also if the rig is in a wreck, the mileage is reported to carfax

I seriouslly doubt a dealer is dumb enough to mess with milage on a used vehicle. The law can take his way of making a living from him!!!!!!! There should be a documented trail on milage when a vehicle is purchased and sold. If milage discrepancy is traced back to a owner that made a invalid statement, the courts can award treble damages. A milage discrepancy between odometer and ECM is not proof.

Perhaps mine is different, or I wasn't clear, my VIP summary listed not only the warranty and recall work, but also work that was done after the warranty was over, done at a dodge dealership of course.

Carfax would only report title work, some wrecks, etc.

What makes you suspect that there is a problem?

was the work performed after the warranty a powertrain or drivetrain warranty work?

base 3yr/36,000 mile warranty
engine 5yr/100k mile.

after base is out, the rest is engine or drivetrain. those items would be listed on a VIP. also if you have a maintenance contract (CSC) would be listed since it is a chrysler contract and handled just like warranty

Carfax is b.s.
My truck has been in two accidents.
One before I bought it, about $9,000.00
and one 2 years ago that was $12,000.00 and when I ran a carfax it came up clean.
I also bought an 84 t-type years back. I found out that the frame was racked out of square and when I pulled the engine found a whole lotta weld on the front cross member. Carfax reads clean history.
I would not PAY for a carfax that you can't even trust.

Hmm, that I can't tell you, just that the work was done long after the 3/36 warranty was done with. I didn't own the truck at that point.
