Noobie question... tires for a 04 2500 4x4
I have a 2004 quad cab shortbed 2500 4x4 with stock suspension. I'm looking to fill out the wheel wells a little more. I currently have 265x70x17's. I'm wondering what is a decent size I can bump up to without any mods or rubbing. I'm definatly set on keeping the stock rims. I was thinking 295's but seems to be an odd size and hard to find. Would 305's fit? How much bigger are 285's..... Will they even look any different them my 265's?
I'm not real worried about finding load range E tires. I only tow my Jeep with it and it isn't very often. Even then I'm only adding max 500LBS of tounge weight.
Any sugestions of a good tire. I would like an all-terain tire (definatly not a mud terrain) I've had good luck in the past with the BFG KO's. If anyone has some pics of their truck stock with bigger tires I'd like to see them.
Thanks! Joe

Splash,
I have 305's on mine, and they fill out good. I've seen a few members who have 315's on theirs, and they say that they do not rub. This is the best picture that I have at the time, you can see my tires in the background.

Here we go again with another tire thread. You can do a search here on DTR about tires and read till the end of time about them.
The BFG TA KO's in 285/70/17 are my tire of choice. Good size. Helps fill the wheel well some, but doesn't rob power. Wear very well.

LOL I know. I hate people asking tire size questions on the Off-road sites I frequent
Thnaks for the info. I'm pretty sure I'm going with the 285 BFG's. BTW Texas, Love the dark rims. Sweet truck

I got a set of h2 rims with 295 nitto's on them. They fill the wheel well nicely. But they robbed a little power. But I got it right back with a Rokktech. But to answer your question
265 are 31.6inches on average--Stock meats
285 are 32.6 inches on average---Bfg KO and Toyo
295 are 33.19 inches on average----Nitto terras
315 are 34.2 inches on average---Bfg off a H2
You can put up to a set of 295 with out and rubbing issues on the stock rims. If you want the 315's you need an aggressive back spaced rim like the H2's These sizes are based on ---/70/17. The bigger you go the more it will cost you. If put a set of 295's on my truck and right away I had to get a set of flares. So keep that in mind. The nitto's are a nice tire. Discount tire.com sells them for 175 a tire with free shipping
