*Mods please lock my "Tailgate Adjustment" thread*

Had the wife listen as I backed in and out of the driveway, she says the noise is coming from underneath, most likely the leaf spring area, passenger side louder than driver side.

It sounds like a rock bouncing around my bed when I hit bumps or concrete expansion joints. It only makes the noise 1-2 times per bump.


HELP! I'M GOING CRAZY!

Very common complaint... so unless something is physically broken (individual leaf) it may be considered normal.

In your opinion does "leaf spring slap" sound as I described it? Like a small rock tinking around the bed of the truck?

 

I checked out the leaf springs and I found that the parking cable has worn a 6" long streak on the frame. When I pull down on the cable and let go it makes a very similar noise to what I am experiencing. The cable is resting against the leaf springs and I believe when the springs flex on a bump it causes the park cable to flick the frame.

I don't notice any clips areas that would keep it off of the spring pack and I can't imagine it should be touching the spring pack.

 

To me it did. I had that sound come from my past '05 Tacoma. I jacked up the rear of the truck high enough so the wheels were off the ground. Jammed my largest screw driver between the leafs to pry apart the leafs just enough to remove the anti-squeak pads, cleaned them w/ simple green, then sprayed the pads w/ "3-in-one professional" High-Performance Lubricant Spray" and also sprayed some between the leafs. After I sold my truck about 5 months later I still never heard that noise again. I did a write-up w/ pics on a Tacoma forum. I hope this helps you out.

Hello, You guys handle all of our service on our 2006 Ram, 2008 Patriot, and 2006 Pacifica, I have a question on my 2006 3/4 ton, I'm experiencing leaf spring slap, does service have any kits or anything to address this?

I bet they would want you to buy new leafs! I bet they charge an arm an a leg for them!!

 

Just thought I should close this thread up.

Finally got the time to inspect everything below.

We narrowed it to the spare tire, so I removed the spare and the sound remained.

With the spare out we found that the driver rear shock upper bolt was loose and the shock was shifting and tinking in the mounting bracket.

Just had the shocks replaced a couple months ago.

 

I've got 1 shock bolt like that. It'll make a noise. About the only fix I can figure out is to put in a sacrifice bolt, then weld the nut in place, remove and discard that bolt and put the shock back in.
