Nitto Dura Grappler 285/75R17

Just had these mounted up yesterday. I was running Nitto Terra Grapplers in 285/70/17's for around 35,000 miles. (They are going to be for sale in classifieds as soon as I snap some pics)
The Terra's were a quiet all terrain tire. The Dura's are silent. And smooth as silk. And they look perfect on my truck. I'll get some pics soon and post them. I've run everything from the stockers to 35" PJ's and these just fit perfect, to me anyway. I drive 99.9% highway so I don't need the AT's anymore. I only have about 150 miles on the Dura's but my initial impressions are this could possibly be the best bang for the buck tire out there for our trucks for those looking for something that will last long, ride quiet, and look killer. I'm stoked...

I can tell you I love mine as well. Had a sidewall flat and had to plug it (emergency) and would you believe it the tire is holding 48psi period, not losing a bit of air, and holding great. They are wearing great, had them rebalanced once (slung some sticky weights and they have since put rim weights on it now) and still quiet now. Got almost 40k on them, expecting at least 25k more...

I have this exact tire combination. I love them. Got a great price on them. So far about 15k miles and I can't tell hardly any wear. Should get tons of miles out of these tires. super smooth and quiet. Look great too. and they can hold a ton of weight. highly recommended

I'm due for new tires. Like the idea of a 285/75. Where did you guys buy them and for how much? Are they E-rated? How do they do in the snow?

Go to Discount Tire Direct. They're cheaper than the retail stores and no tax. I'm in Ca and the tires are shipped from AZ,so no tax in my case. The retail stores will honor the price. They charge $19.95 for mounting and balancing. BTW,free shipping from DTD.

Have any of you guys had these in winter snow on the highway? They look pretty nice.

Tell me about it.

My Toyos are nearly smooth and there's no way I'm going into the snow with them. 58,000 miles and counting on this set! New meats by November for sure!

I noticed the Nittos are rated for 3970 lbs just like the 285/75 Toyos ATs. Nice. But the Toyos are so stiff I'm thinking of getting something else.

These Dura's are a tough tire for sure. I know what you mean about stiff. I've got the fronts at 60psi and can tell the contact patch is even across the tire. The rears I started at 55psi now have them at 50psi and can tell the outer and inner edge of both rear tires aren't making much contact. I'm guessing I should go down to 45psi or maybe 40??? What do you think Raspy?

Pics.. not the best... don't do the truck or tires justice... much better in daylight.

Don't know about the Duras, but the Toyos run fine at 45-50 on the front and 40 in the rear. Any lower and the power steering won't reliably turn them on dry pavement. When loaded, they never seem to need more than 55 front and rear. With more than that, and the truck empty, they have no give and really pound over ruts and cracks. In the mountains, in the winter slush, I let them down to 35 front and 30 rear to try and get some traction.

At first I was really impressed with how stiff they are and the strength of the sidewall (after the whimpy D rated BFGs) but I'm getting tired of the rough ride. I usually only carry several hundred pounds and occasioally up to 1,000. Tow once in a while at about 7-8,000 lbs.

The BFGs had better winter traction, maybe due to their flexibility.

Edit: Nice looking rig. I like the tow clevices and the lights. Can I see a close up of that setup?
