New PIAA kit for '06 stock location fogs?

My local speed shop says PIAA now makes a kit for '06 trucks to mount their lights in the stock fog location. I researched this about a year ago and PIAA only made a kit up to the '05.

Can anybody confirm this?

I'd like to supplement my low beams without having people flashing me. So basically I'll be running them all the time. I believe the guy said the PIAA model that would fit was the 540? Would the driving or fog be best for this application?

Any input is appreciated, especially if you have PIAA's mounted on the front and run them without people flashing you I'd like to know which model PIAA you have and where it's mounted.

P.S. I asked about PIAA's on this forum a while back and got almost no response...

Well, probably not what you're talking about, but I know where you could get a really nice PIAA P-3000 setup in an inconspicuous light bar, similar to this:

Eric,

I really like that setup as I like a stock look.

Questions:

1. Will that give me the light I'm looking for?

2. Your link took me to a PIAA P-3000 which showed a different lamp and nothing about a mounting solution for what your pics show.

By the way is that your truck?

Lance,

Yes, it's my truck. Answered your other questions via PM.

Thanks, Eric

I just spoke with PIAA directly and YES there is a mounting kit that will accept the PIAA #540 lamp in the stock location. He said that a FOG lamp would be best for what I want and could be run all the time without annoying others.

For reference:

Mounting Kit Part # 30320
540 Lamp Part # 5461

This sounds like the way to go. However I'm also open to other suggestions outside the stock location as well as others' experience with PIAA bulbs in the headlights.

I put a set of the PIAA bulbs in my old Toyota's headlights and within a year one of them had burned out. I put the oem bulbs back in, and they were still going strong five years later when I sold the truck to buy my Dodge.

They're not worth the money in my opinion.

I had Piaa bulbs in the fogs and headlights. All of em burnt out in the first 1000 miles. What a waste of money that was. Stock bulbs still burning strong 3 yrs later.

Same here. I paid for the PIAA bulbs and they burned out quickly. I just run the Silverstar Ultras now and it seems pretty much the same.

I love that light bar Eric! That is too cool... Who would of thought of SS instrument tubing? Looks stock..

Ok sounds like there may be durability issues.

But what kind of improvements did you see, if any with the PIAA bulbs?

I had PIAA bulbs in a Dakota. Made a good improvement in visibility. Provided a cleaner brighter light. Lasted about 18 months before the first one blew out. A couple of months later the other went dead, too.

I put PIAA fog lamps on the same truck. Again, big improvement in snow storms and heavy rain. Within just a few months one of the lenses was cracked. Didn't take long before the second one had cracked. They still worked for a couple more years.

Well if they seem to improve things, it still makes it worth while to look into the durability issue.

Some thoughts:

1. Assuming this is characteristic of PIAA, are they aware of the issue?

2. Do PIAA products have a warranty?

3. Could some of these failures be from incorrect installaton? i.e. not using the proper wiring harness etc.?

4. With PIAA being very popular it doesn't make sense.

5. If PIAA bulbs and lamps are truly no good, then who makes a nice line of lamps?

I put a set of PIAA Super Whites in a street bike. They were definitely an improvement over the stock bulbs, but like the others stated they burned out with in months, and melted the plastic around the plug socket...
PIAA replaced them for free, but i did not put them back in.. Went back to stock bulbs.

I've heard good things about Sylvania SilverStars.... I was thinking about replacing the headlight bulbs with those when the stockers burn out....
