New member with 21000 miles

Just a quick hello from a diehard CTD guy. My truck is just turning 21000 miles and is probably the finest vehicle I've ever owned..since I'm nearing 60 that's saying something. My hotrodding days have gone by so my truck is a stocker that was bought to pull our Trailer (7K). I've read enough of this forum to know I want to read more and ask questions too. Just read today that the chirp of the belt on shutoff is actually covered by a TSB..yahoo!! So hello and now back to regularly scheduled programs.

Welcome. While belt chirp is normal on all diesel trucks (my PSD did it even worse), on some of these 3rd Gen engines, it does seem to stress the belt greater than usual - and some of us had early belt failures. (My original shredded at 5400 miles). I never had the TSB (didn't exist at the time), and my replacement belt has been OK (knock wood) for over two years now.

Unless you notice your belt shredding, I wouldn't worry about having that TSB done, unless the chirp really bothers you.

Well after about 11000 mile my belt started to squeal more often than just the chirp at shutoff. They replaced it and it was silent for a couple thousand mile then the chirp returned again...I had thought the chirp was a part of the "normal" sound I should come to expect. Now I'm thinking they need to do the TSB for me.

Welcome aboard.
The pool is now open, lets guess how long GoodoleBob's truck will stay "BONE STOCK!' while on this site now

Welcome to DTR

Nice to see someone a tad older than me signing on for the first time. Your hot rodding days may just be getting started! Let the bombing begin!

Ha Ha Hah....you guys think I'm gonna soup up my truck! I do read all those strange terms in peoples signatures...don't have a clue what any of them mean either. For me to change anything on this truck I would have to have a performance failing that in my mind needed addressing. Since I don't currently have one, BONE STOCK she rides. I am however not living with my head in the sand, so I'm open to the ideas being put forth on this forum. I had the TSB for better mileage done about a year ago..gave me a little more too. Now maybe this fanbelt chirp will get the TSB as well...but all the other stuff is questionable. I'd be concerned with warranty voiding or at least the potential for accelerated wear of a stock system. As I stated I bought this truck for it's well known towing capability more than it's power making potential. It is a magnificent machine!!!

Welcome!
Also pretty new around this site....new to diesels. Fulfledged AARP member so I can relate....getting dumber by the day.....starting to tell "the stories" I said I would never do to the young pups about the "good ole days". Like when gas was $0.19 per gallon and I could fill my VW for a $1.90 !

Still a Hot Rodder and can prove it with my Chevelle. Will I mod my truck? Maybe a Superchip and muffler and open up the intake some...that's about it.
