New linkage, bad tie rod end, mucho DINERO!

My steering felt a little loose on the highway yesterday. Took it to NTB they checked her out and the driverside tie rod is no good. Checked oreillys and they don't have the new tie rods yet. Called dealer and they said can't replace it cause of the lift. Have to buy a whole new assembly $500+. called several dealers and parts places online they all say the same or 339 for linkage only. What a waste of money. Ended up buying a whole assembly from Steve White motors for $275. Shipped

Anyone else been in this situation?

Just replaced the "steering kit" on my truck after breaking an outer tie rod end. Called Dodge and they said they do not make replacement tie rod ends for the "new kit", you have to buy the whole kit. Check with a couple of parts places and they said they had TRW and Moog tie rod ends but they didn't know whether the ends would fit the "new" style steering kit. Paid $240 for the complete new steering kit, plus the tow bill, plus the new alignment, plus the time to install it.

The busted outer tie rod on mine is what finally prompted the repair. Up until that point I was already contemplating the upgrade. Since it all came to a head I already had a parts list and idea of the cost.

Well the upside is now you've got the good parts on the truck.

Well I already had the updated steering and had to pay $590 for it. That's what I'm crying about, would of been a diffrent story if it still had old style steering.

Oh dang, I misunderstood. I thought you still had the old style

So how long did the new linkage last? Any clue why it gave up the ghost already?
