New to Forum-crackling air sound in Driv-side door
new to site, pretty informative site-learned a lot. some funny chit sometimes with the bantering back and forth.
I have a crackling air leak sound on the driverside door and can't pin point it. (2003 3500 quad cab) when I crack the window it goes away?? not sure if it is the weather striping or what. weather striping seems a little damaged where the corner of the door meats the frame and weather striping. but why would it stop when the window is crack? Suggestions??

Well, it could be the window track assembly. When the window is in a certain position it puts tension on different parts of the door & tracking assembly. That is why the sound is there only in certain window positions.
OR, it could be the molding, I would try the molding first and then go from there....

I will. it is so dang annoying on long trips. hopefully thru process of elimination I can figure it out. my warranty just ran out. I have the extended, but I will only use it if the repairs exceed $2000 cause, if I don't use it they will refund my money at the end of the warranty.

with others having the same and different years, There must be a solution. adjust the door? I had really bad air leaks 2 weeks after I bought mine. took it in they adjusted the door, but that was 37k miles ago.

Same problem here! On the Drivers and Passenger door.. Depends on which way the wind is blowing. Bump the switch and it goes away but it is aggrivating. Maybe my truck it just Too Quiet and I can hear the little things like that... Maybe if I cut off the muffler and straight pipe it... I can fix all the problems!!

It has to the be window tracking assembly. In the up position it has causes the assembly to have less tension in that area where the noise comes from. Nothing really can be done. It is a design flaw. I have the same problem on my 94 Olds.

Here is an idea to look at and see if could help with the noise problem. I don't know. But I do remember my windows would "bind" a little bit when rolling up or down. After this spacer piece was put in it helped the binding alot. Don't know if that could also help in the noise factor or not. It would give the technician a good reason to look at it anyway. This applies to trucks with the flip out tow mirrors only as far as I can tell.
And, here is the one for the torn door seal.
