New Dodge Truck

Hello, everyone, I am new to your web site. I am thinking about buying a new Dodge 3500, CC, 4x4, 6speed SRW, LB CTD, HO. I used to drive Ford trucks with the 7.3 diesel. I like the features of the Dodge, but I am really having trouble making up my mind. What kind of advice can you give me toward the Dodge. I figure you are the experts and really know your trucks. Any info would be helpful. ChopperGerry

Re:New Dodge Truck

Welcome, I believe you will find this to be a very informative site. I have had diesel powered vehicles from both Ford/Navistar and Dodge/Cummins and have been very satisfied with both. My current truck is listed in my sig below and is similar to what you are looking for. When I purchased the decision maker for me was the track record of the Cummins engine versus the NEW 6.0 Powerstroke. The 6.0 may prove to be a great engine, but I am not inclined to shell out 40K on a first or second production year engine design. The second big factor for me was that the Ford crew cab would not fit in my garage.

Good Luck

Re:New Dodge Truck

Welcome to DTR,
I have a 97 CC 4X4 Cummins. I am selling it to get a 2000 Quad cab 4X4 Cummins... I will keep it until I trade it for a different Dodge Cummins truck. I don't have any amazing statistics to point to as to why to choose Dodge...I like the way they look, I like the way they sound and the way they perform. Just my thoughts...

Re:New Dodge Truck

I had always driven Ford Superduty's (read that 3) never thought I would own a Dodge till I drove my current truck. I really like my Dodge and am happy with it.
Compare the warranty's if nothing else and see which is better. Also go read the post's on the Ford diesel websites about the new 6.0's and see what you think about what they are saying and compare to this site and see which is having problems.

Re:New Dodge Truck

Gerry;
I tested both the Ford and Dodge before I picked up my 2003 HO. A couple of things to consider; What Moss says about the Ford website is true. About one in 3 have serious problems with the new 6.0 diesel. The cab on the Ford is big, so unless you need lots of leg room in the back, its a bit of a waste. Fords short box is a bit longer than the Dodge, which may be a bit of an advantage, however the Dodge seems to have a much newer design and feel both in and out. I suspect the Ford will be up for a major design change soon.
You will not be disappointed with the HO power and the overall performance and comfort of the new Dodges.
Hope that helps.

Re:New Dodge Truck

Read the last topic on 03 Dually fenders. Its pathetic that a truck as bad as this would have such cheap flimzy dual fenders, plus plastic wheels covers...and a sticker of $45K??????

ChopperGerry was interested in a srw one ton. So he won't have to worry about the chance of developing the problems you listed.

ChopperGerry,

I basically have the same truck your interested in except, I have a 2500. Otherwise the same. HO, 6 speed etc.

I have been driving ram diesels since 1990 and wouldn't have anything else. They really have their act together. The on epost which says compare this site to the Ford, makes a good point. Yoiu'll see very little criticisim about the Dodges. But When I read about Ford and Chevies it is a whole different story.

Bottom line. Dodge makes a good truck.

2 cents and some change.

Re:New Dodge Truck

Hi everybody, this is my first post. I am a retired G.M. employee so you will have to cut me some slack. About a month ago I went to a Dodge dealer to drive a new Cummins 1 ton dualy. I just wanted to try it out so I could say I was not interested in owning one and could go on down to the Chevy dealer and order a new DMAX. The first thing I noticed about the cummins was how quiet it was. The dealer told me how much they had improved the brakes and the steering as I had been told this had been a problem in the past. The looks of the truck were really starting to grow on me. My wife could not believe I was looking at a Dodge because GM vehicles are all we ever buy. To make a long story short the dealer made us a deal we could not pass up (400 under invoice) so we ordered one right then.I dont really like the front ends on the new Chevys that well, and they cost alot more also. I sure hope this is a good truck or I will never hear the end of it.The rest of my family will sure be surprised to see me drive up in the ole cummins. ;D

Re:New Dodge Truck

Buzzzz...I second what Hunter stated and will add my two cents.....after owning the other brands for years and drove this brand i was SOLD...ford is too plain and the new 6.0 are having a few tething problems...the GM... well...I never cared for their controls and seats and their dually fenders appear to be an after thought and 6000.00 MORE for the same truck....I tow a large and heavy 5th wheel with a Jeep inside and my Powerstroke struggled on the hills and cruised on the flats....this cruises on the flats and rarely gets passed on the hills....oh and the brakes....IMHO have the best feel of all three trucks...no fade firm pedal EVERYTIME...could NEVER say that with my superduty...thats why i sold it....the pooooopiest brakes on a vehicle...very scarey in the rain....barely touchem and the antilock engages and stops are VERY long....very unnerving when you gots some weight on yer back!...anyway...welcome to the OTHERSIDE and enjoy it....you wont see to many complaints on this or other Dodge forums regarding our trucks.....like you do on other sites...
My 3 cents
Cameron

Re:New Dodge Truck

OK, enough of this. Fess up. Tell the truth everyone. These new Rams suck. The Cummins is trash. DC can't make a decent auto. People point and laugh. Word to the wise don't buy a Heavy Duty Ram! >
