new dodge diesel owner

I JUST PURCHASED A 2004 DODGE QUAD CAB 4X4 LONG BED WITH THE 600 SERIES DIESEL WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. MY PRIMARY REASON FOR GETTING THIS TRUCK HAS TO DO WITH PULLING A CAMPER DURING THE SUMMERS. I HAVE READ POSTERS ON some FORUMs WHO ARE VERY NEGATIVE when commenting about DODGES AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I dont know what the problem is. It seems to work very well so far. Other posters have made an argument that Fords overall truck is better than dodges. I traded in a 1997 ford f350 xlt lariat 4x4 with a 460 under the hood and although I loved this truck I have to say that the dodge is just as nice in all phases. I shopped around when I was looking for diesels and wanted to get a ford but they refused to sell any truck for less than $38,000. I found 4 leftover 2004 dodges out here in vegas and negotiated the price down to $31,000 for my dream dodge pickup. I am feeling like I got a good deal on this truck. Can anyone comment on some of my observations. Did I get a good deal for this truck?

Hey Grizzly,
You got a smokin deal on your truck, I am an auto dealer in Las Vegas and used 04's are going through the auction for more than you paid for yours...good job. For the last 20 years I have had to deal with the Hard Core Ford, G.M., and Dodge fanatics. Listen, none of these trucks are pieces of crap, they ALL have their strong and weak points. I haven't heard of any problems with the trannies, in fact, all the "reputable" reports I have read on the new trannies are very positive. I wouldn't worry, you have a great warranty if anything breaks. As a 20 year veteran in the truck selling business I would say beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Dodge trucks will give you more bang for the buck than ANY other truck out there. I get to drive all of them on a daily basis and I chose a Dodge as my personal driver. Don't let anyone steal your thunder, you got a great deal on an awesome truck!!
Mike

I think you got a good truck. True, the Ford SuperDuty is a great truck, but it doesn't have a Cummins.

Good deal

I have been driving Dodge trucks since 1997. Some with auto and some with manual. They have all done the job very well. I tow campers and horsetrailers. I have owned all of the major brands and have enjoyed them all. I can say without any hesitation that the Dodge has given me less trouble over the years and I have had to spend less time on problems compared to the othe brands. Cummins is awsome and the Dodge truck is as good as the rest.

I just took my truck up a snowy mountain in 4 wheel drive and it performed flawlessly. I read about how to tell if the engine is the 600 series or not in a different post. I checked the side of the engine and sure enough it said "325 horsepower at 2900 RPM's. The transmission shifts very nicely and I have no complaints with about 250 miles on my new truck.
