New Dodge diesel owner with questions.

Hello everyone,

I just purchased my second Dodge truck but first diesel and I'm interested in doing some upgrades. It's a 2005 RAM 2500 laramie. I know from driving it compared to my last Dodge (hemi engine) that their has to be gobs of untapped power there.

I've done some reading up on modules, etc. from Quadzilla, Dr. Performance, TST, Bullydog, Juice, all of them. My primary concern is that after spending nearly $50K on a new truck, I'm really not interested in comprimising my warranty in any way. If I can easily remove a module when factory work is needed, that's great. But what about Intakes, exhaust systems, etc.? Do I need these in addition to a 50-90-130 type adj. module? Would an exhaust system affecct warranty? An intake system?

I love the idea of quick plug in performance but also don't like doing things half way. I would add some other goodies if they are a) absolutely necessary and b) don't affect my factory warranty.

With that said, which of these are proving to be the most reliable and effective. Are there any out there that have agreements with Dodge and won't void warranties?

Regarding any factory work needed, I'm hoping to need none of it since these devices are rumored to make you motor more efficient and boost mpg, performance, etc. I've already purchased a pyrometer anyway.

Sorry for all the questions, just looking for some guidance and you all seem to be experts in the field. Thanks a lot for your advice.

Steve

All of the tuning boxes will void your engine warranty, and running boxes and removing them for warranty work is certainly questionable ethically. Most here will tell you that once you start modifying your truck, you are 'your own warranty station.' Dodge does not approve of any such device. You gotta pay to play!

Exhaust system is about the only thing that they probably won't care about warranty wise - considering for your 05 it will be a cat-back system. They are funny about warranty and air intakes sometimes, and can and will blame various failures on poor aftermarket filtration. With that said, changing out the intake and exhaust will not increase your performance noteably, just make more noise.

Most dealerships won't bat an eye at intake and exhaust, as long as your intake system filters as well as the stock one. That's why I got an AFE PG7 filter. The scotty RA3 w/foam filter will do just as well. The box will void your powertrain warranty. People that say removing it for warranty work is unethical, but I think that's hogwash, as long as you're not taking it back to fix a problem you know was potentially caused by the box. IE: if you have an injector failure, it's probably not caused by the box, although DC will place blame on the box to get out of paying. To me that is much more unethical.
