Thumbs up New Bilstein Shocks....Big Difference

I installed a new set of Bilstein Shocks 5100 series on the truck Friday. All I can say is WOW!!!

Granted, the old stock shocks were shot, but I don't remember the truck ride being this good even when it was brand new. I should have installed these long ago.

Glad to hear it! I am going to be putting shocks on my truck shortly, and I am looking really hard at the bilsteins.

Only 35K. 95% of the miles are hooked up to a trailer pulling something. And about 50% of that is on rough roads. I have heard a lot of good things about the Bilsteins, I hope they last a lot longer than the Stockers.

Ive got almost 42k on my stockers, and I can feel em bounce me around a lot more than when I first got the truck.

Been thinking about this for my Megacab 3500 in hopes it will improve the ride. Got any part numbers for those?

I changed out the stock shocks to Bilsteins at 5K, made a tremendous difference, night and day differences in the ride.

I also changed mine at 5K, but would not say I truly saw/felt much difference. There is enough difference that I'm not going to take them off, but not really a lot IMO. I have stock suspension so that may be why.

Give the Bilsteins a try. I think you will be very pleased with them. They are a little more expensive than most, but worth every penny.

I got mine from Geno's here is a link. Get the silver/black they are 5100 series. If you have any questions, give the tech. support line a call (the number is on their website) they are very helpful.

Amen brother! If I knew then what I know now, I would have ordered some the day I drove the truck home.

Did you use the Bilstein 5100 series? I noticed a big difference right off! I also have the stock suspension, I don't even have a leveling kit on the front. A loaded trailer levels the truck out just fine.

I hooked up the trailer and pulled the tractor to a job today. The Bilsteins not only perform with the truck empty, but they handle a loaded truck and trailer extremely well. I am very pleased with these shocks!!! Darn fine German engineering.

maybe some of you guys can explain why bilstein doesnt claim to have an application for the 07s or 06s. Last time i looked at their website they say they only have shocks for up to an 05. Did dodge change something after that year or something?

I am also looking to put new shocks on my truck. 27,000 on my stock shocks and I hate them. I have not called Geno's yet but on the website they only have the Silver/Black for 02-05. For the 06/07 they only have the yellow/blue listed. Anyone know of the reason for the difference?

I am definetly going to go with bilsteins, but I am going to wait till I get a leveling kit for the truck. Trying to decide what to go with. I wanted to go with some coils from carli and build off his kit, but, I really need to get the front end up with the new tires, so I might have to just do a spacer for now.

I don't know the reason for the difference, All I know is that the silver/black is compatible with a leveling kit for the front and the yellow/blue is not. You can run the silver/black on the stock suspension which is what I did because they are a better shock with a little different internal valving.

Call Geno's and talk to their tech. folks. They seem to really know their product lines well and I think they can answer your questions. It may be that the shocks will fit the 06 and 07 applications and they have just not had the opportunity to update their website.

the 5100 shock is 2 inches longer, which will work for leveled or stock suspension. the yellow and blue ones won't work for lifted suspensions. i did leveling coils first with stock shocks, not advisable, the stock shocks went to full extention very fast. the '03 got shocks before leveling it. the shocks made a HUGE difference in both unloaded and loaded. loaded meaning 1600# hitch weight on our fifth wheel. both trucks are now leveled using skyjacker d25 coils which gave them 2 1/4 inch lift on front and bilstein 5100's all around. the trucks now sit 1/2 inch higher in rear than front.
