Need tire help.
Need tire help.
I really need some help. This is my first post on this forum because I just drove my new truck off the lot on Saturday. This is my first Dodge/Cummins and so far I love it. The only thing that I don't like about the truck are the small 265 tires. I want to trade them in while they are still new. I have done many searches on this and other forums and see that 315's are a popular choice. I also have read many things about D vs. E load range. Since the 315's are larger they have the same weight capacity as the smaller E range tires.
I will be towing a 28' enclosed car trailer. Fully loaded is approx. 10,000 #'s.
I want to run the larger tires, but don't want to be running tires that aren't correct.
Will the BFG's be safe? If not, what tires other than Parnelli Jones can I buy? I want something that is a little more aggressive than my LTX's.
I appreciate all the help. I love the info on this site.

Congrats on the new truck. There is quite a bit of tire info on this site. You can use the Search button at the top and enter tire to review all the old posts. It would be worth the time.
My 04 came with the Mich 265 and I traded them for BFG 285. But as you say, they are D rated, but the larger tires have about the same load rating. I will say, the short time I had the Michs, they do ride a bit smoother, get better fuel mileage, and handle better. If you really do tow alot, you may want to just consider keeping these. Depends on what you do the most while driving.
I chose the BFG AT because of their snow rating and all around capability. But the MT tire is a better off road tire and does not catch and throw rocks like the AT. But again, for towing, I'd think the Mich would be the better choise. So I'd suggest thinking what you do the most. May even want to get a 2nd set of wheels and tires for a Winter/off road use.
Best of luck. I sure love this truck, hope you have lots of great driving mile on your new rig.
PS, I traded my Mich tires in with about 500 miles and got $400.

I like the Cooper Discover series by Cooper Tires they have about 3 or 4 good choices to choose from ST,LT,AT AND JUST THE DISCOVER, they are a good quality tire and unlike alot of the other tires you buy now a days there made in the U.S.A. Just my 2 cents worth you might give them a look before you buy anything else or you can check them out on the web.
Thanks for the help. I did a lot of searching before I posted. I just couldn't find anything that was really clear one way or the other. Both tires have the same weight capacity, so I didn't know if it would be OK to go to the larger tires. I will tow short distances (30 miles or less) most of the time, but I will take 5-8 trips each year that will be 500+ miles.
I appreciate all the help. I will definitely check out the Cooper tires.

When I was looking about 6 month ago, most of the other brands were rated about 500 lbs lower than the BFGs.
When I was at the local sportsman show, I believe I saw a new Toyo tire with an MT tire design that was E rated. This may be the only one with an E rating. I believe it was spendy, maybe $300+ per tire in size 35.
