Need input on a new DVD unit
I'm looking at replacing my stock stereo with a DVD/navigation unit. I don't want the cheapest junk on the market, but I'm not looking to pay a fortune either. My truck came with the basic stereo with Sirius. I plan on getting the stock navigation bezel for a clean install. I'd like it to be able to work with headrest screens for my kids on long trips too. What are some good models to look at? Best places to buy? I'll do the install myself since I'm not building a competition stereo. I know quite a bit about turning a wrench, but very little when it comes to car audio
. I need some schooling from the audio gurus here.

Not sure of your budget. The Kenwood DNX7100 is at the top of my list, the Alpine IVA-W205 is right there behind it as second choice. Both will allow you to run a screen in the rear and still listen to tunes up front. Check out Crutchfield for some prices (they also provide all wiring harness and brackets)and some of your local shops too.
go with the kenwood. i've had em all and the kenwood is the only one worth buying, especially for you, it has dual zone control, so your kids can watch a movie via head rest monitors in back and hear it only through the back speakers.
and if your really slick you can download a movie on your ipod and watch your own at the same time only hearing it through the front speakers----oh and have a ok sounding chick tell you what way to drive aaannd take a call hands free all at the same time. it really is the best unit. all the others fall really short in at least one department.

i didn't want to spend the 1700 at first either, i put a cap at 1000 but i am WAY glad i spent it, worth evrey penny!!!

I have the DNX-7100 also. It is awesome. I added the blue tooth, Ipod, and sirius. I'm in the same boat with tinbanger

Wow, $1700, is that installed?
Crutchfield has them for $1199 right now with a free back-up camera. I'm going to check tomorrow with a local Kenwood dealer to see about getting one through them with installation, otherwise I might get it from Crutchfield and do the instal myself.
