Need Help On Buying 06 Dodge Ram 3500 Drw Cummins

Hello.I know there are other people here asking the same questions but please help because iam going to buy one in the next couple of days.so here we go. I found a brand new 06 ram 4x4 drw auto, with cummins, laraime or homever you spell it,for 48k sticker.he told me there is a 3500 dollar rebate and he will work on the price.what do you think i should pay for it.should i get a big chunk off of that because its an 06 and they need to get rid of them to make way for the 07's.then there are other questions.1.Are they going to change the body style any time soon or did the new front face lift take care of that. 2. What gears should i get.Iam going to pull my boat that is about 7k pounds but will be getting a bigger offshore boat in a year or so,mine is a 28ft cat right now but am going to get a 42ft v.also when some people talk about the cummins they say there is a 600 cummins what is that.is the cuumins diesel in the 06 iam getting the best cummins or is there a bigger one out there. should i wait for the new 6.7 ctd,and/or will it come to california. i ask all of these questions becuase i dont want an outdated truck and get ****** off because i should of waited.what options do you think i should add or take away.i live in upscale newport beach california,so i hate to say it,iam a city boy,but do a lot of recreational stuff. So if there is anything iam missing that you enjoy that i should add on let me know. Please dont say 6speed because my girlfriend needs to pull the boat out of the water will iam in it,and she is one of those pritsy girls.sorry for all the question and thank you for your time.

You need to ask yourself a few questions....

1) How far & how frequently are you towing the boat? If you live in newport beach & drag the boat to the nearest ramp...and occasionally go further, 3.73 gears will suit you just fine. If you always drag the boat up to van nuys through the hills and the boat is >10k, 4.11

2) How heavy will the next boat be?
If <10k, 3.73; If >10K and <17K, 4.11
With 3.73 gears the gross combined weight rating is 21k; 4.11 = 23k GCWR is the truck, boat....everything it will tow (including itself)

3) What are your other toys like?
Light trailer? Light 5th wheel? If the boat is the beast, let that drive your truck needs.

4) Have the dealer install the Jake...you won't be sorry!

5) No problem with the Auto....the 6speed is supposed to be out with the 6.7l CTD.

6) Posi...help the girlfriend ge the heavy boat out of the water.

7) Will you have any weight in the bed? If not, I wouldn't buy the dually, unless you need it for stability in towing the boat.

HTH

Tony

You mentioned the “new 42’ boat”….how much is that big boy going to weigh? I think you may be getting into Medium Duty truck territory. The max for a 3500 dually with 4.10 axles is #23,000 combined if I recall correctly.

Waiting for the new 6.7L with the Aisin 6 speed auto is sort of a crap-shoot, I decided to get a 5.9L while I could because it is well proven. No one knows for sure, but several "engineer types" have predicted that the new 6.7L with EGR and a particulate filter on the tailpipe may see about a 20% drop in MPG.

autowest

I was just at Autowest dodge in Roseville yesterday. They would not sell me a truck at invoice and seemed very infelxible. Shingle Springs Dodge did and they got my business. I should pick it up today.

You should not pay anymore than 10K less than what sticker is. Meaning, there are many dealers who do 3% under invoice and rebates on top of that. Example, my truck was 48,500 sticker and I handed them a check for 38,000 when I took the truck. Ask what invoice is and work from there, not from sticker down. Limited slip is a must have for the trucks, especially the dually, auto with 4.10's will still get decent mileage and not make the truck work too hard pulling the boat. Other than that, you want a Laramie, so you will get most options available. Call up Tom Chaney known as TomeyGun on here and ask him to give you a price quote, he will do a build sheet and give you a price, he should be cool with letting you have it, since they cannot get California trucks in Mo. So he should be more than willing to help you out. Scotty

I bought mine at Folsom Lake Dodge for $10K off the sticker ($32.5K). They had 70 Ram 3500 diesels in stock at the time.

I paid straight invoice (just under $38k) - rebate for a total of $34500. Some of you got better deals but they also gave me more for my trade than I thought. They gave me $11000 for my trade in. KBB for trade in was $8000 and my truck was beat up. Autowest would not give a penny over $7k for the trade and $3500 over invoice.

I stopped at Folsom Lake dodge, but the salesman was an a-hole.

I went to edmunds.com and entered every option the truck had to look up their invoice cost.

I got a 2500 4x4 Big Horn LB CTD auto. They are driving it from Fresno now.

Right now the local dealer has 10 Bighorn duallies in stock for $34,974 out the door. These are auto 4X QC's. I wouldn't think a Laramie would add more than $3000 to that price.

Too bad how one a hole can screw up a deal. The guy I worked with at Folsom was an okay guy. I came in armed with some prices from Dave Smith and others and I guess they wanted to move some trucks. They claim to be the highest volume Dodge truck dealer in CA.

One heads up….I got the Chrysler Max Care 7 year 100K mile extended warranty from the local Dodge dealer. This is where I’ll be taking the truck when needed and they matched the internet prices for the extended warranty. I also got the 28 oil change coupons (every 3500 miles) that are good for 7 years….maybe overkill for a Cummins, but it works out to only about $18 per service (oil, filter, lube & wash). I guess they don’t realize that oil prices have gone up? AFAIK, they use the Mopar oil (Valvoline Blue?) and Mopar oil filters.

Enjoy your new truck!!!

that $34,974 for a dually is including the rebate im sure.when I bought mine a few months ago dodge was giving your choice of a 3500 rebate or 0% financing for the term of the loan with no payments for 6 months. I didnt take the rebate. took the no interest for the term of the loan and no payments for 6 months. saves interest of $2500 in the first year alone. my truck would have been 33,999. with the rebate . starma , you are saying that your local dealer is selling 06 dodge dually 4x4 automatic quadcabs for $34,974 out the door which includes tax and license? so basicly they are selling them for 10,000 less than sticker and paying the tax and license for you? wow man thats a screamin price . wonder why they are selling tyhem for LESS THAN THEY PAID FOR THEM ? oh, unless they have hand crank windows and rubber floor matts and black bumpers and vynal seats and am / fm radios . LOL
