Need ball joints for AAM 5200 GVW front axle
Need ball joints for AAM 5200 GVW front axle
I have a 2004 4x4 quad shortbed 2500 SLT. Ball joints are bad and have been since 70K miles. Now have 90K. Finally need to change them out and trying to find ball joints for a 5200 GVW American Axle Man. which came standard on my truck is impossible. Dealer seems to be the only one that has them and they dont specify whether they are 4500's or 5200 gvw's. All other auto parts co. seem to only have the 4500gvw weight axle repalacements which would not fit or be to weak of a ball joint for a 5200. Am i going crazy and am i alone on this problem? Do you all have 4500GVW axles? Kinda wish i did. Dealer wants about $800 for the upper and lowers. I have a very good mechanic and he looked around to and could not find any. Have gone to web sites, Geno's included, and no one specifies weight capacity for the axle they are selling. ANY IDEAS.............other than Dealer purchase.
Have you tried - http://www.rockauto.com? They are not showing 2 different part #'s so I think they will work fine - I also found them here -
https://www.dodgeparts.com
That is from a Chrysler parts catalog and it also only shows 1 part # for upper and 1 for lower 4WD, the only difference I see is 2WD/4WD

There is a difference ..... after buying and returning ball joints that auto parts store thought were right ....were wrong! Going by the last nine numbers of mine VIN ....... dodge has a part numbber but they can tell me if its for a 5200 GVW axle or 4500. Does not give them the weight info, therefore, i cannot cross reference a part number with anything Moog has. Moog says in their catalog that that part is not available as of yet. So..... What the hell has dodge done?
Yea, I worked @ the dealership years ago and if it only show one in the part catalog thats all there was. I spoke with a tech I worked with and he said all he has ever seen is one part# for 4WD and another for 2WD. Good luck it you have anything different!
