mystery bell

I have a 2003 2500 w/ 40k miles, and have just installed a 100gal aux tank. Everything operates fine except I occasionally get an interrior chime. Is the truck telling me something is being coded in the computer or ? Was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue.

Mystery Chime

I had an issue that started out the same. At no particular time, I would get a "bing"....just once and then not again for a while. No dash lights. Eventually, about 3 weeks later, the chimes got closer and closer together. I finally caught, out of the corner of my eye, a light on the dash. Waited for it again....."lamp out". Ended up having to change out both tail light circuit panels. Some of the '03's are put together with a faulty circuit panel, that the tail lights plug into (brake light socket on mine). $25 bucks a piece and a simple install. Don't know if this is the same problem, but sounds familiar.

Thanks again for the insight. I will check it out. Is there an easy way to determine if it is defective?

My Dads 03 does that and it is irratating as hell. Replaced the passenger side brake bulb and went away for about 3 months now its doing it again. All the bulbs are working fine and everyonce in a while the "lamp out" will flash. Wonder if its the circuit panel ?

The sockets like to heat up and burn. I just squeazed mine down with needle nose pliers and replaced the bulbs.

Wow, guys, is this forum ever useful! I've heard the mystery chime every now and then, and I always look at the gauges, look at the lights, check the seat belt, check the door. And I never find anything to link it to.

I've been just chalking it up to gremlins, but now I have something to look for.

Thanks!

Mine did that once right after I bought it and my voltmeter dropped to "0" I thought "oh boy, shoulda' got the Chebby instead!" pulled right over and popped the hood. Nothing. I started it back up and it's been fine ever since.

P.S. That was nearly three years ago, and I'm glad I didn't get the Chebby.

My lamp out came on when the flat bed was put on. Had to take it to a dealer and get it flashed. It would chime everytime I hit the break or put a signal on. And the signal would flash faster than normal. Thats been over 30,000 miles ago. Sorry, I'm getting nostalgic.
