My truck was broken intol.

Hey guys, I don't usually post much but I read here every day. I left my truck alone in a parking lot for about 20 minutes while I was buying a generator at a Northern Tool in Houston, and someone broke into my truck. I had a laptop in the back seat in a black bag, kinda hard to see it, but they must have been looking real close. Didn't take the Bell radar detector on the dash, or thouch the Bullydog sitting on the console. They did something to my drivers door and busted the lock out of the handle and pryed the handle down. It bent the door up alot. My question is since this is friday night and I can't get an estimate until Monday, The body man I use is gone out of town. How do they put a new lock in and make the key match. I know that the plastic handle is only about a 35 dollar part, but I bet the key part is a real pain to fix. Does anyone have any expierence with this?

Trucks being stolen have hit a high again in El Paso. They reccomend a steering wheel device, as they say standard alarms no longer work. They also said more vehicles are being broken in to rather than being stolen these days. The thieves want the booty inside, not the vehicle.

The store was on 45 and Airtex. The cop that came out asked me about the case of .380 I had in the door of the truck. He asked If I they had found my gun. Luckly it was not in the truck. I had just taken it out this morning before I went to work.

I did see the Jimmy jammers, but the way I see it is they would have still try to get in and do damaged to the door. If a theif wants something bad enough they don't make a lock big enough to keep em out. I wish I had just left the doors unlocked. They got the computer anyway. It would have saved the door though.

They do have camera's. I was parked in the back of the lot. on the far east side. The manager Lonnie said that the camera did not see that area of the parking lot. Maby if it was his truck it would be a diffrent story.

All in all I estimate it to be a 500 to 600 dollar repair to the truck, My work most likely has insurance on the puter, and I have a weeks worth of projects on there since my last backup.

Good thing I didn't see them. I figure even if thay got to a car and tried to get away, they aint gonna out run me long enough to not get a plate number.

I have two of these and love them. IF a theif wants it I am sure they could cut the cable or pry into it but it would surely take some additional time. A cop told me once that if your gun is stolen and used in a crime YOU can be sued for it, so some sort of device as this is in my opinion essential.

they did the same to mine -
I pulled the lock out of the plastic handle and replaced it.
Go to the ******* and give them your VIN number and they will key a lock to match your key - I cant remember cost, maybe $60 or so

I understand the desire to be safe, but really what good is a handgun locked in a safe in your truck? If you ever needed it you wouldn't be able to get to it in time.

It looks as if there may be only very little body work to get the sheet metal straight again, a new handle and the small metal piece that covers the lock. The lock still works. Funny thing is that yesterday I went to move my Travel trailer and my truck would start and run for 10 seconds then die. It did this about 4 times, My best friend who drives a Nissan Titan told me that had happened to his truck and to try putting the Key in the door and cycle the lock. When I did this and put the key back in the ignition the parking lights flashed twice and the truck was fine. I had no idea that there was any relation between the door lock and the truck running.

Safes and locks only keep honest people honest. I think if my windows had been darker they would not have seen into the truck and may have left it alone. I am thinking that the Pillar guages are what get peoples attention. Many many times I have been question about them. It gets them looking and then they see something that catches their eye.

They would have been happy to steal the handgun if it were in the truck. Concealed carry and catching them in the act is your best hope. I was told if they can prove they were inside the truck. The charge is ungraded to a felony. Hope they catch the scum.

If you have to go into a place where you cannot carry (if you have a permit), you typically carry but go to a resteraunt and have a few drinks...etc. I carry everyday but there are times when it must stay in the truck.

SE Arizona is one of the worst places to leave your late model HD unsupervised for any length of time.

I posted some time ago that anyone travelling into our area must be extremely careful to safeguard your truck. I try to keep mine in sight most of the time if visiting Tucson, Sierra Vista, etc. Special caution in Malls, Theatres and back streets.

Several of my friends have lost their rides.

Who ever told you that if your gun was stolen and used in a crime that you could be sued is smoking crack. If you can prove reasonable diligence is securing your firearm, it would not even get filed. The DA would know this is a looser and not waste his time.
