Multifunction switch / steering wheel

I have a 2008 3500 Mega and my wipers are working off and on. After looking here for a while I believe it is my multifunction switch. So I go out and get a new one 90.00, and now find out I have to remove the steering wheel to replace it .

So are there any how to's on replacing the multifunction switch and removing the steering wheel? Pics would be nice. If there are just point me in that direction.

I really don't want to have to take it to the dealer. I have replaced the ignation switch on my old 04.5, that is neither here nor there.

I understand not wanting to take it to the dealer, but if your truck still has a warranty left, i would take it in and have them do it. These switches seem to go out fairly often and that way it would be covered still.

55k so no warrenty. THey say somewhere around 2 Hr min and not until late next week. I really do not need to pay extra for somethig I can do.

So i got the switch and started looking at it. the Electronic housing where all the switches are located has a different color than the bracket that goes around it. I figured they could be separated.

BINGO, they come appart very easy so the bracket can stay on the colum and the switch slides off. No screws, just a small tab.

As you look at the switch assembly like it would be in the truck mounted, there is a small hole on the Left side close to the lever with a gray or white piece of plastic in it (not the part that moves when moving the turn signal more to the center). That is a locking tab/nub. I inserted a pocket knife from the left side and the electronic assembly just slid out.

Well now if I can do that on the one in the truck I will be set. If not I still may need some help.

Just for refference, this was for a 08 Ram 3500 Megacab 4x4 SWB as in my sig.

Hope this helps for future refference and saves someone a few bucks.

I got a recall on mine... Never took it in. I thought the recall said they would replace it no matter the mileage.

Should be easy. Remove the steering column cover. It is three torx screws and one torx machined screw. They are all under the steering column. After that it just unclips off. The multifunction switch should be secure with a couple of screws. Unplug, remove, and replace.

You may have to take off the panel at your knees to get the steering column plastics off, cant remember right off hand. To take off the panel that is at your knees it is two screws on the bottom of it. After that it pops off.

extended warranty coverage applies only for certain 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 trucks. The warranty extension is for 10 yrs. or 150,000 mi. according to my letter. Just got mine back from the dealer today for this.
