muffler delete.....
Pipe angle makes a difference
When I first installed my muffler delete pipe, I had temporary straps wrapped it holding the assembly in place until I had time to get hangers welded on. The tip of the exhaust was pointed at the ground and the "drone" was loud but not too unbearable to me. After a couple of months I finally got around to having the hangers welded on and I asked the shop to ensure the tip of the pipe was level/parallel with the ground and pointing straight out to the side. The drone seemed to all but disappear with the tip pointing straight out to the side. Will add a nice chromed tip soon and expect that to reduce it even further. Also, one of the mags this month, Diesel Power or Diesel World had an article about heat and sound proofing the interior. That is on my to-do list next.
I love mine with the muffler delete also. It does have a bit of a growl at around 1500ish RPM...but I like that. I tow a 10k trailer quite a bit and it does not bother me at all. I really don't notice a difference at highway speeds. I got a 6" tip and the delete installed for $100 from a local muffler shop.
I just did the ME kit last weekend. It was worth the money. The sound is definitely deeper. The noise in the cab is only slightly louder. Outside it is a little louder but nothing ungodly. I haven't towed with it yet but so far it was worthwhile.
