mud flaps

I just had some husky mud flaps installed today (free install)
Do they cut back on MPG at all?

Steve

Oh Yeah Anything you add will cut back on MPG. You know you add weight and change the aero dynamics of the truck so much that you could loose as much as 5mpg and especially if you add fuel and fil the tank all the way up

You could take it to a wind tunnel to find out. Maybe the flaps would reduce the drag by preventing the air from going under the truck. If not, perhaps the additional drag could be overcome by running with the tailgate down.

You don't won't to run with the tailgate down
They have already run trucks thru the wind tunnel and proved that you will get better mileage with it up due to the loss of downforce on the driving wheels, why do you think they added that wing to the back of the SRT-10 right above the tailgate and dind't give you any type of tonneua cover
If you think those mud flaps add alot of drag and decrease fuel milaege you should see what happens when I add my 5VR to the back
I loose about 10mpg Maybe I'll remove the AC, TV antenna, and radio antenna that way I should bet back about .3mpg

Hey, they are "Husky" mud flaps...so maybe they are built out of some really heavy duty material and really put a load on!

That settles it. I must have an SRT-10 rear wing. Anybody know the cost of it?

I've heard the word "mudflaps" used to refer to a person's... umm... cheeks.

Even if that was what ssteve meant, I would think you would have to have really, really "husky" mudflaps before it would reduce your truck's fuel mileage.

I'm trying to exercise and eat better myself, and if I would have known I could get better mileage, I would have started sooner...

Youd have to put snow plows on your fenders for mud flaps to reduce your mileage.
