mud flaps
mud flaps
My truck that I ordered 15/10/03 has arrived at the dealer today, I get to pick it up Saturday
The dealer asked if we wanted mud flaps installed--I had not thought about this option but I think it might be a good idea because I haul horses and I think the mud flaps should reduce the stone chips on the trailer (and noise for the horses). My husband is not keen on the idea, (I think he has in mind big mud flaps with pictures on them ie naked women). The dealer tells me the flaps are moulded (would they be mopar ?) and look nice not too big.
Does anyone have pictures? I already ordered them but I don't think it is too late to change my mind. The truck we have now has mud flaps and my husband was not even aware that they were there!
I'm really excited to get my new truck, it has been a long wait.

Re:mud flaps
No pictures, but i have them on my truck.A must have imho.Due to the contour of the wheel well all types of rocks, mud, etc. get thrown up.With todays paint, chips are inevitable.Good choice.By the way,CONGRAGULATIONS!
Re:mud flaps
I put the Mopar molded mud flaps on my 04 a few weeks ago, they are great. I dont like the look of mud flaps in general that much myself, but for mud flaps, these are about as plain and unoffensive as I've seen. They do require drilling a few holes but nothing too tricky. They will definitely protect your rocker panels from getting dinged/chipped up, as well as whatever you're pulling.
Re:mud flaps
I have the non molded type mud flaps on my rig and I like them. guess that's why I put them on ;D. You can take a look at my picture on page 56, Mike's Dodge, you can see them ok in the rear view.
I also added the Bushwacker whatever they are around the wheel wells fenders. If you think you want something like that, you should put them on 1st, then add the mud flaps.
There you have it. Now go enjoy that new ride, you should love it.
PS: I like clearance lights, there are pretty cool. Wish I woulda ordered them.

Re:mud flaps
Just installed the mopar units yesterday, they paid for the selfs in the first trip to job site a great investment, I wish I HAD THEM DEALER INSTALLED,, not hard just a pain......
Re:mud flaps
I too have the Mopar mudflaps front and rear and they definitely have paid for themselves many times over already. The winter back here in the east has been eventful already; and having to go onsite to more than a few construction sights...plenty of mun and loose stones, my paint still is still in great shape. The flaps are a great investment. Congrats on the new truck.Mark S.

I've got the NON-molded MOPAR mud flaps and I think these would be better suited for your needs. The hang down further and do a better job of keeping the rocks from kicking up.
You can get a view of them on the members photo page 45 ;D

Re:mud flaps
I put the Mopar molded mud flaps on my truck because I live on a white rock road in rural Texas. They help keep the mud and rocks off the side of the truck and look good. I am not wild about mud flaps generally but these serve their purpose and are inexpensive and easy to install. Over all a great addition to my truck.
Re:mud flaps
I have the Ram moulded splash guards on mine. They look neat and protect the truck, but they haven't done a whole lot to protect my trailer.
You can see them on page 54 of Members Photos under Red Ram.

Re:mud flaps
Thanks for all the replies and pictures. The mud flaps are certainly not offensive, they are quite tasteful and those are nice looking trucks on the members page. I can hardly wait until I get mine. Perhaps the non moulded flaps would be better because they are longer but does the stiffer material on the moulded flaps stop more stones?

Re:mud flaps
the good quality NON molded flaps are pretty stiff. Mine are about 3/8 inch thick and have very little flex to them. Plus they are wider, espec. the ones on the back tire. You can actually buy them in different widths.
Re:mud flaps
www.kaydenco.com makes a range of mud flap lengths and widths but will custom cut a length of your choice. I have 'em, and like 'em.
Re:mud flaps
The MOPAR non-molded are heavy and thick enough to stop all of the rock throwing and they hang down further also. They also release the mud better than the stiff ones do. They will probably work better with snow also because of this, you won't have to worry about the big snow or mud clot yu would normally get from the stiff mud flaps.
;D ;D
They also go on very easy and you have to drill, I believe 1 hole but it is in the wheel well liner, everything else goes in the existing holes.
