mopar/hella factory fog lamps

i just received my new factory mopar / hella fog lamps today .. i assume there was already wiring in place for these lights .. and that the fog lamp switch was built into the headlight switch.. but when i got them there is directions and all this new wiring and relays !! anyway does any body have any experiences installing these fog lamps ?? and where did you put the Little fog lamp switch that was provided !! thanks for any info

Have you looked under your front bumper for wires that aren't terminated? I would be surprised if the wiring isn't already there. Look around, maybe the factory taped or bundled the leads back into a wire loom once they read the work order that the truck didn't have fog lights.

I could believe that the headlight switch might be different though. The headlight switch pulls out to turn on the fog lights. You might want to try gently pulling out your headlight switch ****. If your headlight switch won't pull out, consider getting a used one at a wrecking yard.....it'll be MUCH cheaper plus you'll be able to figure out how to remove the switch on someone else's truck first!

I just looked at my shop manual and trucks with fog lights installed from the factory will also have a "Fog Lamp Relay" in the Power Distribution Center located in the engine compartment. You'll probably have to get one of those too as I'm sure that you'll have an empty slot. Assuming there is factory wiring in place down by the bumper. If you can't find the factory wires, you'll have to go with plan B and those wires, relays, and switch that came with the new lights.

Look in your Power Distribution Center and see if you can find the location where the relay would go. If there are wires connected to the slots where the relay would plug into (metal tabs in the slots) then I'd bet that you have wires somewhere down by the bumper too.

The 2004 shop manual says the wires powering the fog lamps are White with a Yellow stripe and the other one will be black for the ground.

Ok, I couldn't stand it so I went out and looked at my truck.

The fog lamp wiring harness comes down the driver's side of the vehicle out of the loom that also feeds the windshield washer pump. The wires are colored like I said. There is a connector just above the driver's side fog lamp and the wires then travel to the driver's side flog lamp and then along the bumper over to the passenger side fog lamp.

The relay in the Power Distribution Center is relay #62. It's in the front row and 2nd from the left (as you're looking from the front of the truck). i.e. 2nd closest to the engine in the front row.

Good luck.

Thumbs up handymantim

WOW !! thanks for all the info !! it is greatly appreciated !!i have looked at a friends truck and his switch is different (since he has the factory installed ones) mine does not have the pull out part for the fog lamps .when i was under my truck a few weeks ago i did see the wire that goes to the fog lamp on the drivers side but it does not continue on to the passenger side , but like you said i will go investigate the main relay box under the hood !!

thanks again

Since your truck has the wires on the driver's side then all you'll need to do is:

1. Get a factory headlight switch that pulls out or put in an aftermarket switch somewhere. If it were me, I'd get a factory switch from a wrecking yard.
2. Get a relay for the fog lamps (probably will need a fuse too)
3. Install your lights and then run a couple wires from the driver's side over to the passenger side fog light.
