Ok, so I want to change my cooling system fluid. Owners manual says to use: "Mopar Antifreeze/Coolant 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula HOAT (Hybrid Organic Additive Technology) P/N5011764AB or equivalent."

I don't want to go to the *********** and get bent over so I head to town to get the Valvoline Zerex that others have recommended. Can't find it anywhere except NAPA as others have stated. Just about ready to buy when I notice something in small print on the back of the bottle. It states something to the effect that it may not be HOAT compatible. Using it in systems requiring an organic additive may cause damage to the cooling system. It did say it was specifically made for diesel engines and one of the specs listed was Cummins.

So I don't want to chance anything. I figure I will go to the dealership and get screwed but at least I will know I've used the correct fluid. Tell them I need the P/N above and the guy comes out with a container that has P/N68048953AA printed on it (pics attached). Knowing how important it is to use the correct fluid, I point this out to him. He says the Mopar P/N has recently changed but he is sure this is the right stuff. Even though he appeared to not have a clue what HOAT was.

Is there anyone out there who can verify that this is the right Mopar coolant to use? Also, any input on the Zerex coolant would be helpful since it is half the price of the Mopar coolant ($10.xx vs $20.41). Thanks in advance.

 

I didn't know that referring to dealerships high prices as stealing was a bad word. Why block it out if it's not a curse word?

 

Were you reading the Zerex G-05 or a different formula? G-05 is what you want. You can also use Ford 'gold' coolant as it is HOAT and just colored different.
The Mopar may have changed part number due to the Embitterment additive?

 

Thanks jkitterman. Turns out I had the right Valvoline coolant the first time. I read the label on the back wrong. Got OAT mixed up with HOAT. "Important Customer Information" pic attached.

I took the mopar coolant back to the dealership. Went back to NAPA and got the Valvoline and saved $20. I guess one good thing to come out of my mishap is that others will know that the Mopar P/N has changed (should they decide to use it).

Thanks Mulehunter. I'm going with the Zerex because of the price but this info may be helpful to others who want to use Mopar in the future. I think I read somewhere that Valvoline was the maker of the Mopar coolant. Don't quote me on that. Anyway, I appreciate your input.

I added Zerex G05 to top up the stock fill in the '07 6 months ago and no issues so far. I'm pretty sure it's the same stuff.

 

Yeah, their web site says Dodge has been using their G-05 as factory fill, dyed differently...

 

the coolant in my trk is a redish color. this trk is 2nd hand and i'm wondering if it has the correct coolant. i bought it at 34k, trk has 56k on it now. change the water pump around 52k.

Stock coolant is a reddish color.

Zerex Hoat G-05 is a golden yellow color.

Its the same stuff. The factory coolant was dyed red.

I have heard of a few issues w/ non Chrysler HOAT coolant. Personally, for a little extra money, I have no issues buying the OEM coolant.

G0-5 is the specific type of HOAT coolant Chrysler is using. It is the same exact chemistry. There's other types of HOAT coolants available, but Chrysler is using G-05, identical to Zerex G05.

 

I changed mine out last year with regular prestone antifreeze when I change thermostat. This year I went and bought John Deere premixed antifreeze when I changed the coolant hose by the turbo.

 

Are either of those HOAT rated? I doubt it. Good luck. Personally i'd change it out with Zerex g05 mixed 50/50 with distilled water.
