I was thinking about using this led light. they come in both a 3" and 6" lights.both are a dual function light so you can use them for lights and turn signals.

led turn signal lights
I found them at www.motorcycle-leds.com. Just click on LED Mini & ultra light bars. The 3" lights are $42.95 a pair. I haven't bought them yet but I figured I could mount them on the side of the mirror in the non tow position that way when they go in the tow position they would be on the bottom. Also I found them at www.heeters.com . I have been searching for led turn signals and I found these, both of which are motorcycle sites, the lights are 12 volt DC so I figured they should work

I am currently putting this mod on my mirrors but wonder how you fastened the strips to the housing.
If you used screws, don't they interfere with the mirror tilt where they protrude into the housing?
I was going to use 3M tape but am thinking about using rivets instead which won't protrude as much.
Any thoughts?

Those seem to be a bit pricey but they look awesome. I found over on the diesel place, them GM boys solved the problem of wanting LEDs in the mirrors like ford towing mirrors. Someone thought up putting a few of these little LED bulbs along the outside of the mirror and man do they look sweet! Maybe someone can get creative and incorporate them into the dodge style flip mirrors. Just another idea for ya.
scroll down alittle more than 1/2 way they are called "LED snake lights"

I whipped up a quick thing in Paint to show 2 possible places i think they would look good. Maybe the corner part of the flip up section of the mirror OR have them on the end of the stationary section of the mirror. They can be wired to come on with parking lights as well as flash with the turn signals.

JT, could you do one with the lights along the bottom of the mirror, along the arm? So, when people are driving in your blind spot they could see them. I like your idea, I think it would work with those single push in LED lights. Just a matter of drilling a nice looking pattern in the arm or side of the mirror.
