Mirror repair/replacement
Mirror repair/replacement
Today I managed to break two of the clips that attach the rearview mirror to the motor assembly, so now I'm trying to figure out a repair plan. Dealer says they either come as just the glass, or a complete assembly for $240. I don't really want to spend the money, and it looks like I could replace just the broken piece if I could find it, but so far no luck. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Prolly out of luck
I looked at the parts book and all i could find was the glass or the whole assembly. I couldn't tell you if maybe the glass had the clips or not the picture and info is not fully broken down, but i can tell you the glass will put you back about $25-30.
I managed to take it apart (now I know why they only sell the motor as an assembly), and there's a big swivel ball in the center with four motor-arm mounting points to control direction. I'd broken two of the motor-arm tabs and the center ball. Bought a tube of plastic weld and glued the center ball back in-place, then I decided I wanted a little insurance, so I drilled a few small holes in the motor-arms and the front plate of the assembly (where the mirror attaches) and ran zip-ties through. So far, so good, and I've slammed the door a few times just for good measure.
