Mileage on 2800 mile trip
Mileage on 2800 mile trip
My 2006 Dodge 2500,5.9CTD, 4dr, auto turned on 30,000 miles on a 2800 mile trip from central Arkansas to State College, Pa. and back thru eastern Pa. and down thru the Smokies.
Upon arriving home my overhead read 20.1 miles to the gallon and hand figures showed 20.4 miles to the gallon. These figures are for the whole trip. One tank (lots of 65mph freeway) figured 22+mpg and the slow trip thru the smokies recorded about 19.5mpg.
I am very pleased with the mileage and overall comfort of the truck.

That's incredibly good mileage if you ask me I'm only getting 19 but mine's nowhere near being broke in with only 9000 miles and no towing. I think I got one of the lousy fuel mileage trucks but for a long time I couldn't admit it even to myself. I so wanted to believe in the overhead
but I don't think it was getting much better than 15mpg off the dealer lot.

I went to PA last month and put on 950 miles in a bit over a week. I took it easy on the way down, and was in stop & go traffic on I-81 on the way home.
A Hemi owner I work with asked me what I got for mileage. He was shocked
when I told him it was only 21 because of the stop & go. He get 17 highway if he stays off of it, but once he's on secondary roads, it drops like a stone.
Notice how the mileage drops when you go 70-75 instead of 65? Ah, the joys of driving a 6' 7 " brick.

12Pack,
I agree about the higher mph and lower mpg. My truck is "stock" except for a K&N air filter (installed by previous owner), I think it would achieve 24mpg if driven at 55mph.
I don't try to "drive for mileage" but I don't drive "stupid" either. Set the cruise at the speed limit and ride.
As a CDL trucker, I can not afford any speeding tickets. My big rig is governed to 67mph so I am used to "smelling the roses".
