just back from warranty eval

called michelin and they sent me dowtown to the local shop that can do warranty eval. they called up michelin and told them the condition of the tire. michelin offered to me 40% off a new set(me paying 60% of normal price). i said fair enough and asked him if i could jump up size to a 315 70. they said no way. the dude at the shop thought it would be an easy deal but michelin declined without hesitation. im callling back michelin right now and going to try and raise a fuss. also michelin owns BF and uniroyal tires.

How fine are the cracks in your tires? Are they running around the edge of the rim? Also, country were your tires made in? My tires have very fine cracks that run just outside the edge of the rim,but Im not losing air....
thanks Rooster

how did you get them to give you 285s? i fought over the phone with michelin and they said they could only give me what is put on by dodge. either way i got another quote on some toyo m/ts 35x12.50 for 1150 mount and bal incl. with michelins 40% credit i would be paying 550 for the new stockers. i think i will just get what i want now and be done with the french mades!

Just checked mine and they're cracked too. My '06 megacab has 7100 miles on it. Michelin said I could take them to 4wheelparts in Bakersfield and have them inspected. I wanted to get a set of Procomp xtreme alloys (black) and a set of procomp radial all terrains - this may just work.................

I just asked if I could go one size bigger. My 285s will be here next tuesday. The warranty is giving me 3 free tires, the 2 front and 1 spare and charging me 25% for 2 rear tires because they were wore a little more.

they must have made the call at the tire shop. they get paid either way i would imagine. i have just decided to get the toyos and kmc wheel combo they quoted me for 1950$ out the door. might have to way a month or so but my tires arent leaking and i dont have any long distance driving to do between now and then.

I've noticed that most everybody has an 06 that is getting their tires replaced. When was your truck made and where US or Mex. I wonder which plant got a bad batch of tires. I'm going to look at mine today and with any luck I can get a new set of tires that I really want. The Michelin's are good for towing but that's about it.

The second tire store I went to was much more cooperative and will get me some new tires. My truck was hecho en mexico. It has been my experiance that Michelin knows that there is a problem with these tires and if you don't take no for an answer you will get satisfaction. Hopefuly the new tires won't have the same problem. If they do, I guess I'll switch to bfgs.

How small or big are the cracks that you all are finding. I checked mine and found some but they are very small. You really have to look hard to see mine.

You dont have to look that hard on mine, they are small and extend all the way around near the rim. Mine didnt have a problem until I did a road trip, thats when they stared losing air, However no new truck tire sould have any cracks anywhere on them.

The cracks are approximately 1/4" in length and extend from 1/4" from the rim to about 1" out. There are 100s of them and are in the area where all of the tire info is (what you'd expect to see on a tire that's been sitting in the sun for a long while). Mine is a Mexican Ram (Mexiram) although I couldn't tell you where the tires are made. Only the fronts are losing pressure.
Michelin credited me for 5 new tires.

Went by to one of the inspectors and said they had to be at least 1/8" deep to be replaced. The ones of you getting them replaced are they deep or just on the surface. Might have to get 2nd look at with someone else.

Go to another shop. Make sure you call michelin and start a file before you go in. Ask them to recommend a store in your area and tell the new store that michelin sent you in to get new tires. I found that the "are these tires ok?" plan doesn't work. I got the blow off from the first place I went. He actually told me that I could tow a 747 with those tires. I guess he has a part time job as an engineer with Boeing.
