megacab 1500 with solid front axle

got my new peterson 4wheel & off-road mag today. there is a nice article on the new dodge megacab's. i did not realize that the 1500 version comes with a solid front axle/8 lug set up, like the 3/4 and 1 tons!

Yup

Don't know why anyone would want a 1/2 ton Mega Cab though

I believe the larger axle was to get the towing rating up high enough to not have it included in the cafe average. None of the 1500 mega cabs have mpg estimates on the sticker from what I've seen.

I think the 1500 Mega Cab is nothing more than a 2500 version with different badges and a Hemi.

Bottom line is the 1500 MC is really a 2500 MC with a softer spring rate, different badging, and a lower GVW sticker in the door jam. DC wanted a true crew cab truck to compete with the F-150 and GM 1500 but the cost involved to design and test an all new IFS 1500 frame would be staggering. Therfore the 1500 MC is really a heavy duty truck in disguise. Technically, it's also the only factory half ton with a solid front axle.

Perhaps your not following along close enough. It already is available, they just change two badges when you get the diesel option, the "Hemi" is replaced with a "C / Cummins" emblem and the "1500" is changed to a "2500".

Same thing GM did when the introduced the first 1/2 ton crew cabs. They just rebadged a 3/4 ton and lowerd the GVWR.
