I am thinking about adding a gooseneck hitch to my Megacab. Every time I investigate it, I hear about issues with the trailer getting into the back of the cab in tight turns. Now...mind you....this information is coming from guys that do not and have never even been in a Megacab. I need input from you fellas that actually have them and use gooseneck set ups. Ball placement: Directly over axle or just ahead? What brand of hitch have y'all used? Any real stories you want to share with us about getting the trailer in the cab?

I have a gooseneck in my truck and pull a 30 foot gooseneck often. I have made some really tight turns and have never come close because the gooseneck is not like a 5th wheel.

I have the Pop Up GN hitch on my truck. It is installed in the correct place per the mfr installation instructions, just fwd of the axle where it should be.
I have several GN trailers, all are 8' wide trailers. A couple have tapered noses - go from 6' wide at the nose to 8' wide, one has an 8' boxed nose. I have a 5th wheel that I converted to GN, it possibly could have had cab interference if I tried to make a real tight almost or at 90* turn, the coupler sits just under the nose overhang, really needed an extension coupler type 5th attachment out of the factory. I installed an offset coupler on it to give me more cab space/distance. I also use an offset coupler on the boxed nose GN for the same reason.
The offsets I'm using are also made by Pop Up. I probably could have gotten by without using the offsets, paying attention to what's behind you and where it is, well, that is important also. I have seen many hit their cabs with 8' beds when they go past a certain point, so cab interference could/can happen regardless of bed length.
I have not had any problems whatsoever with cab interference. Structurally speaking, the GN couplers are located out at the nose, some out past the nose, not set back some like many 5th wheel trailers. Even the 5th wheel companies started using longer nosed attachments years ago because of short beds, and also because of interference issues that happened with long beds. You should not have any issues. And if you have concerns, go to the offset couplers for your peace of mind. I have the ones with the air bags, they are absolutely great.

Remember that the bed on the Megacab is the same length as every other modern shortbed Dodge, so there are no more interferance issues with the Mega than there would be with a quad cab.
I have a B&W turnover ball, I would say it's approximately 2" ahead of the axle and I have had no clearance issues with my goosenecks.
B&W has offset ***** available if the design of the neck of your trailer warrants it's use.

I work with a guy that used the slider hitch on a shortbed truck. He said it sucked. Especially if the trailer was heavy. It wouldn't slide smoothly and was hard to line up the pin or something.

I have my own gooseneck that I put in my truck Its made of 8 inch channel with a 4 inch channel inverted inside the 8 incher and welded to the frame. Its positioned directly over the axle, where its supposed to be.
I wanted a B&W but didnt like the way that it was place so far forward of the axle.
I use a gooseneck adapter on the camper I tow. Without my stacks it clears ok, have to watch the REALLY sharp turns. With the stacks I have to pay more attention to it.
