Welcome. You should add some info, what state you're in, and what you may be using the truck for. I have heard the the BFG MT are not all that great in the snow. Some people sipe the tire to improve traction. The ATs are supposed to be much better in the snow, but like the posters above said they may throw rocks. So I guess it depends on what you are doing.

Anyway, I just read an article on the new Toyo MT. I don't know anyone that has these, but the Toyo tires have a good reputation. These are supposed to be available now in 35s, but you would probably need new wheels. And I hear they are load rated, close to 3900 lbs. I don't think you want C rated tires on these trucks. Here is a link to the Toyo MT, I don't think they have much info on the new sizes, so you may have to call a local dealer.

Snow/ice traction: EXCELLENT! Rock throwing: EXCELLENT! But hey, you need a reason to put on a great looking set of flares any way!

Hey guys the revs per mile are 606 exactly for the 315's. I measured the loaded rollout with them mounted on the truck of course. The rear tires like 28 psi and the front like about 40 to 42 to make an even wear pattern all around (unloaded truck). I air the rears up accordingly when I pull my trailer. I had the tech at the dealer set the revs at 606 and he wanted to set them at 600 so I had time to kill and a gps so I let him do 600 and we went for a ride. The speedo was pretty close at 600 but dead on the money at 606 per the gps. Nothin like a little math!! This figure is with the above tire pressures. I love the AT's although they do throw a rock now and again. Auto Zone has the touch up paint if it gets ugly. You will love the ATKO's and yes they will clear with no lift but I installed it for looks and it still drives perfect and looks great. Completely different look than stock!!

And you didn't post pictures????????

Pictures please!!!!

We want to see what that baby looks like with 315s. Do they actually stick outside the fender wells?

Did you notice any adverse effect on final drive ratio given that you already have the taller gears? Are you pulling anything heavy with it? I'm debating 3.73 vs 4.10 right now before I order and this could weigh on my decision.

Thanks,
Neil

Hey Neil

I am at the Fire Hall today so I will have to try to post a pic or two when I get home tommorrow. I drag race and pull a 28 ft Vintage tag with all the normal stuff inside prolly around 8000 to 10000 lbs. I dont have any trouble at all towing with the 373 gears and the auto in OD. If you go with the 410 gear then in my opinion you will need the 35's. These engines dont need a lot of help with gear ratio like the V8 diesels. Gotta live that broad fat EARLY TQ curve of the Cummins.

03CumminZ4X4,

Thanks in advance for posting the pics. I'll be looking for them.

Regarding the 3.73s, I don't want to lift my truck at all because it will cause problems with my trailer. So, 315s would be the biggest I would consider as someone said they work without having to lift the truck (maybe that was you?). Anyway, you make a lot of sense. I even tow 10klbs+ with a PSD which is V8 and I've never had a problem staying in the engine's sweet spot (around 2000rpm). I was just worried that the combination of the 315s and the 3.73 might be too tall for towing. Someday I hope to get a bigger 5er. Sounds like it's a non-issue.

Thanks,
Neil

Sorry, I may have screwed up by making a comment on the 35's and the 410's. I meant if you had a truck with the 410's already that you need to have the 315's to give you a taller ratio to get those rpm down into that TQ curve early. By 35's I am talking about the 315's although they are not trully as large as 35's. I just dont think its needed with the performance curve of the Cummins engine. Oh yea I just thought about the statement you made about not going with the lift because of towing. I think that the 2'' in front will help the cause. If you leave your truck stock and add the 315's the rear is going to be higher than if you install the 2'' spacers in front. As the front comes up the rear bumper goes toward the ground. I know a lot of the guys say that your truck will sit nose high with the trailer and the spacers but I dont find this to be the case at all with my combo (truck and trailer). If your tounge weight gets up there then I would look into the Firestone airbag kit for the rear of the 2500 instead of the harsh helper spring of the 3500. I know this is kinda rambling on but I want to give you all the info I have on the subject.

I have 3.73s and 35" bfg mud tires on my truck and I feel that I still have plenty of power. Actually it goes better than my 99 chipped powerstroke did. I have the 2" leveling kit that was put on for $300. I didn't think it was too bad. IMO there isn't a better looking tire. My friends and I beat the heck out of our tires and they've never let us down. The only draw back to this size of tire (12.50 width) is that they are more likely to ski on you in icey conditions. Just use extra caution.

Also for a mud tire the bfg mudders aren't as loud as other mud tires. If that was something you were worried about.

You won't be dissappointed.

Kris

315's came in last night, only 1 day UPS from Shreveport, and went down and had them mounted at on post AAFEES. This morning went to Dodge Dealer and had them set the "PINION FACTOR" for the 315's. The Revolutions per mile at 45mph is 601 (right off BFG Website) for these tires and I have them set at 45psi all way round. I immediately noticed that when at 65mph tach is just under 1800, at 40-43mph tach is around 1100 rpm and engine is lugging a little, so I'll have to adjust and drop into 5th gear, which I did and it rev'd up to 1400-1500rpms. I noticed a little rub this morning going into a parking spot, but think it may be the tire hitting the mudflaps, that are mounted to the Bushwacker Street Flares. Yes, the nose is still down, but man these tires look sweet. I also noticed at atound 65mph I have a little steering wheel vibration/shimmy...it may be that the tires aren't warmed up yet (only 5-6 miles)..or not balanced correctly or tire pressures to high in front. I'm heading south texas tomorrow and will run for 5-6 hours...so will see then how it responds and take back to tire shop for rebalance or new tire if needed. Gotta love that road hazard/balance/rotation warranty you can get through AAFEES...It was too dark and rainy last night to take pics...maybe try tonight before dark and post in my gallery...

oh the 2" leveling kit is just a spacer that fitson top of the front coil springs. You have to remove wheels, remove shocks, drop the coil spring out to install them. You may have to remove one of the swing arms to get the "A" arm to go low enough to get the coil out and back in...and you may or may not need an alignment afterwards, but just have it checked to be sure...No, I do not have the 2" leveling kit on at this time...Wife is ****** enough I bought new tires for a new truck

Thats gonna be either tire balance or an out of round tire. max runout should be under .050" or it will shake no matter how well balanced it is.

Can hardly wait!

Thats a for sure on the alignment, I put one of those on my buddies 3500 and as you raise the frame away from the wheels it pulls the tie rods in so you end up with too much toe in, taking measurements afterwords confirmed he would have trashed the rubber if left as is.

Wife is ****** enough I bought new tires for a new truck
I know how that is, I ordered my tires before we got delivery of the truck! She wasn't so ****** just rolled her eyes
