Looking to purchase a 03' Dodge have some q's

I posted this in another smaller Ram forum and I'd like to get a broader source of opinions... here is what I posted..

I currently own a GMC 2500HD Duramax and really got interested in a local Black 3500 Ram Dually ST Larame Auto 4x4 with 32k miles at a dealer... They are asking 37k for it. It's got pretty much every option besides a sunroof and heated seats..Condition is avg for a truck has alot of light scratches over the rear wheel wells no dents. Bluebook is around 31k for this truck was wondering what would be a good deal for this truck?

Also a buddy of mine said the ram's are known for the body to rust like hell even the 03's+

Sorry for all the q's.

Thanks

I don't know where the body rust coment came from. We haven't had any problems with rust since the 2nd gen came out in 94. Now I do have a freind with an 02 Ford that the box is rusting apart.

But as for the 03. Only thing I would check is to see if it has the HO or SO Cummins in it. In early 03 model the autos were the 47re with the SO, I think it was Jan of 03 when they switched to the 48re auto that would handle the HO Cummins. Their is a tag on the motor, it will say 305HP for the HO the SO was less, don't remeber the exact number.

I believe it was the HO. Anyway any comments on the price? I was thinking if I could get the truck for 30 that would be a good deal? The guys on the other forum said I could get a 05 3500 fully loaded msrp 45-46k so with rebates 40k.. their asking price on this truck was like 38k! definitly to much!

Thanks for the quick reply!

it is an 03 with 32k miles the bed has holes in it from a 5th wheel that was removed and now the holes are rusting and it has if i'd be conservative about 500 or so little scractchs above the wheel well on the rear and needs all new tires

Seems high. Check with Tommygun over at TDR. You might find a new one close to that price. Maybe folks buy these at invoice.

I got my 03 (2500, 6 speed, SLT with most of the toys) out the door for 30K and some change brand new. I think the duallys were only a couple thousand more than the 2500s, so I guess I'd be thinking around 28K. 37K seems way out there! And that's if it's an HO. For me, an SO would be worth even less.

Is there a warranty with it? Besides the 100K Cummins warranty. What else is there? Will the guy throw in a Rhino liner to cover up and seal those rusting holes?

I looked at Kelly and, without knowing your ZIP, came up with 33.5K for retail, 32+K for private party and 28.5K for trade/wholesale. I'd be working for somewhere between trade/wholesale and private party, but closer to the wholesale than private party.

Then again, supply and demand dictates the price. If it's the only CTD Dually in your area and it's a popular vehicle then you're at his mercy if you really want it. I guess the bottom line is: What's it worth to you??

Edit: missed that it needed 6 new tires. That's about $1200, so I guess that'd put me even closer to 28K.

It sounds like they are around $8k high, and even $30k would be a generous offer. The fact that it needs 6 new tires at 32k miles is strange. Sounds like they were never rotated.

Thats what I figured I think i'm going to offer then 30k OTD them not doing anything and I'll trade in my truck im sure i'm going to get raped on that one but it saves me the hassle to find a buyer... I figure they'll give me kbb trade in for it even tho it has little expensive add on's.

Now I see they listed it on their website for 32,895... I still think thats a bit high for the condition and tires... here is the link.. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...sp=y&cardist=1

BTW, it's been on the lot for 47 days exactly...

Thanks for all the help it is much appreicated!!

should only be about $32500.00 going to be a little higher then blue book from a dealer.
when i bought my 03 it was $30000.00 a year ago and I was looking at a 4.5 3500 dually it was only $35000.00. used with alot of option don't rise price that much just help sell faster. That truck soon to be three years old might be by build date.
