Looking to purchase; need your help

So, I'm getting rid of my full-time 4x4 truck and getting yet another RAM.
I had been thinking of selling my truck and buying a used Ram.

But now I have an offer from a dealer.

This is what I'm looking for:

03-06 3500 SWB SLT Quad 6spd 4x4 with limited-slip rear and 3.73 gears.
If I went used, I'd want less than 75,000 miles on truck.

The dealer has a new 06 3500 that is equipped just like I want.
$35,387 without tax (but my trade would mean zero tax).

Should I take this deal, or wait for a slightly used truck to show up.
My concern is that the options I want are pretty specific. Not sure if I'll find what I'm looking for (that has been cared for the way I care for my vehicles).

Thoughts?

Thanks

I love my '06, and if you want a new truck, dont wait for the '07"s, i think it would be best to wait and see how many bugs are in the new emissions controls on those engines

Just my opinion

That sounds like a good deal to me. Buy it you'll like it.

Oh, definitely.
While a larger displacement sounds great, I don't want a 6.7 before they've worked the kinks out. Definitely looking at 03-06 (or even an 07 with 5.9).

Where can I find good real-world pricing on the truck? I was hoping to see what other DTR members have paid for similar trucks.

Edmunds isn't being very helpful.

BTW, anyone know dealer price on extended warranty?
Wondering if I should try to get that thrown in.

Reuben,

To know whether the truck you are eyeballin' is fair money or not we need to know how it is equipped (trim level, options, etc).

I picked mine up a few months ago for just north of $38k (+TTL). I shopped the warranty just as I did the truck and went to another dealer to get the warranty (DC was tops IMO) that takes me to 100k miles and covers every little thing (Nav, etc, etc) - IIRC it was just south of $2k (DC is finacing these @ 0% for 12 months - I was going to pay cash, but what the hell, if they are paying me to finance it I will let them!).

email me if you need more details

Also, dealer price on warranty is going to differ vastly as some are dealer owned where others are administers, and some are factory.

Hehe. Got in a hurry there.

Yep, the new truck that I'm considering is:

2006 SLT 3500 QuadCab SWB 4x4
6spd.
Limited-slip
3.73 gears
Premium cloth 40/20/40
ThunderRoad package:
  • 1-Year Service Provided by SIRIUS
  • 17" x 8.0" Forged Aluminum Wheels
  • 7 Pin Wiring Harness
  • Bodyside Molding
  • Fog Lamps
  • Class IV Hitch Receiver
  • Leather-Wrapped Steering Wheel
  • Rear Sliding Window
  • SIRIUS® Satellite Digital Radio
  • Trailer Tow Group

auto-dimming rear
power sliding rear window
sirius radio
manual transfer case

I think that's about it.

I think Thunder Road is like the Big Horn package in most states.

What is MSRP? I was looking at a 2500 SLT with $41700 sticker and the price right now is $36500 - $3500 rebates = $33000 + tax.

I believe this truck stickers at $42,430
I'm going to try to get the dealership down to 34,500.
At that point, I'd do the deal this Thursday.

Well, they wouldn't come all the way to my price, but . . .

I put a deposit on the new truck at $34,900
They're giving me $37,000 on my trade.

The extra cash and the money I make selling parts from my other truck will be going towards a winch and RoadArmor bumpers front and rear.

Woot!
