Lime or some other deposit on the side of truck

Hi,

I found some sort of deposits on the side of the dodge(behind the wheels) the other day after washing it. It will not come off unless I use my finger nail and alot of pressure. It splashed up from a road that was being resurfaced(kinda smelled like cement when I washed it off). I dont know if they used lime or some other substance. anyone have any ideas on how to get it off? Ive tried Tar/bug remover and polish.

Go and get yourself a 'clay bar' in your local autoparts stores detail section. Use the clay bar with sopay water or with a product like 'instant detailer' or something as a lubricant and it will take of contaminants without damaging the paint. Works wonders....I keep a bar in the truck and use it frequntly.

I don't know about a clay bar, however ther are products out there for just such a problem. One is called liquid hammer and there are others check with a local redi-mix plant near you. They will mostly use acid but there are less harsh products.

Yeah-- the acid in the vinegar breaks down the alkali lime.

Just like the vinegar and baking soda volcanos we did as kids-- only less entertaining

I use a product from Carquest called DX-440 from PPG that will remove all wax and grease from a vehicle. I purchase from the carquest that only deals in autobody stuff. Takes not time at all to do my entire truck after the long winter up here in Alaska. It was like $30 for a gallon and only take a little to do a truck.
