light load switch
Guys
just got a 2008 2500 Quad-Cab, cummins, 6-speed manual....I know about the engine brake switch....but right across from it on the right side is a switch labled "light load"....can't find anything in owners manual etc. about this....what does it do?

I did notice that when i push that button the exhaust brake shuts off....strange if it has to do with tires?
Dave
I beleive it allows a lower tire pressure with out sending a "low tire pressure" warning. I don't have it on my DRW since I don't have The tire inflation monitor. I wouldn't think it should affect the EB but others with the system can confirm that.
All it does is change between 2 setpoints for low tire pressure alarm. I'm pretty sure the manual even states what those setpoints are. If your exhaust brake is turning off when you hit this switch it's either pure coincidence or you have a problem.
might be helpful as when I go to new suspension and wheel/tires I do plan to run the new larger E rated tires at a lower PSI excepting for when towing something heavy etc.
thanks from a newbie
Dave
With the "light load" button illuminated, the TPMS will trigger an alarm when the rear tire pressure falls below 45psi. With the "light load" button NOT illuminated, the TPMS will trigger an alarm when the rear tire pressure falls below 60psi. The "light load" button does not affect the trigger point of the front tires (60psi always).
The TPMS/light load functions on these 08+ 2500 trucks are a PITA. They are finicky and sometimes will not function properly with no cause. There have been rumors that the pressure with which the TPMS triggers an alarm can be adjusted via the StarScan tool at the dealership, but I have yet to find a dealership with a tech who knows how to perform this function. It is the TPMS function alone that makes me wish, when I bought my '08 2500, I would have instead ordered a 3500 and waited the extra 6 weeks for the truck to be delivered (3500 model trucks, regardless of wheel base or SRW/DRW, are not required and are thus not equipped with TPMS).
