Kill switch (security)

I have seen a lot of posts about people's trucks getting stolen lately.. kinda makes me nervous.

I wonder if I could put a toggle switch in somewhere that would not let my truck start unless it was switched on.

Ideas?

TIA...

JC whitney makes a block fuse that goes in place of your fuel pump fuse that has a little key fob to lock or unlock the fuse.

I would want to go with a product that had a better reputation. The Ravelco has a 31 year, over 4 million sold worldwide with ZERO defeats. It protected my truck this last summer when some punk tried to steal it. Peace of mind is priceless.

When my little brother bought his truck it has a little think thats works like a fues. If its plugged in it lets you start the motor, but if you remove it it kills power to the starter. Ill see if i can trace the wires this next weekend, to see where they go. Im sure it would be easy to put a switch in to kill the starter.

local ford dealer installs a system called "theft lock" and i have bypassed several of them in front of customers with a paperclip.

I think it's a yellow wire up on the firewall up top on the driver's side... That wire should be the power lead to your starter which is easy to disconnect. If you added a switch inside the cab for that wire it would probably keep your truck from being driven off. I don't think they'd spend time searching for a switch.

cbrahs, thats what its called! I did the same to my brother when he said that I couldnt start his truck with it unhooked!

But I agree, most wont sit around looking for a switch. This is one of the reasons I like living up here in SD, I dont ususally have to worry about someone making off with my stuff!!

Mark, does your truck have a grey headed key or the regular black headed key? I ask because your truck isn't going anywhere without a key if it is grey. Then again there's always keeping a rattlesnake in the truck. It won't get far that way either.

It has a black key. No new stuff for me... I was thinking about leaving my 5 year old in the truck... they'd bring it back after a few miles...

In his ford, my uncle cut the wire going from the ignition to the starter solenoid and installed a push button in it. You have to push it at the same time as you turn the key or nothing happens. It saved his pickup from getting stolen when we were eating lunch a few weeks ago.

Lucky but unlucky for you MH. The good news is that you can have as many spares as you like, but I'd look into toggling onto the 16 ga yellow wire coming from the ign switch. It's in one of the bottom two in the harness.
The unlucky thing is anyone with your VIN can make a key. Dishonest ones only I'm sure.

I've seen that before... kinda what I was thinking... but I have a remote starter, so I probably need a toggle.
