keyless remote programming instructions

When I turned 40 last year a little man about 6 inches tall moved into my house. Since he's been here all kinds of trouble has ensued. This little man keeps moving my wallet, cell phone and keys when I put them down. I wish i could find him but he hides well, in the mean time, does anyone know how to program a keyless remote fob, the dealer wanted $100.00 for the job and i almost passed out when he told me that. Just trying to save a few bucks and would appreciate any help. BTW i have a 04.5 3500 with auto trans. Thanks!

I have a 2001 and as far as I know the programming procedure is the same. You cannot program the first one but you can program any additional ones you buy. The dealer has to access the vehicle with the DRB scan tool to program the first one. The vehicle is actually programmed to the keyless FOB. I bought another Ram and figured I would get one of mine programmed for the other truck. When I got home I pressed the button to lock the doors and the horn chirped on both trucks.

The procedure for a 2nd gen is here.
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...n&onlynewfaq=1

It is also listed in the owners manual in my 2001.

I just programmed 2 extra keys (bought on Ebay for $19. each!) in my 2004.5. It was a piece of cake, and is spelled out in the manual very well, but the catch is that you need 2 keys that are already programmed...1 to get the procedure started and one to finish after you program the NEW keys. That is why I did this now........before I lose one of the original ones (which I am certain to do) and have to let the dealership gouge me. According to my manual, you can program up to 6 new keys. If you want, you can probably do a search on Ebay for something like "programable Dodge Keys". They are EXACT duplicates to the factory units, which I was told were $85. each.
Good luck, and notify me personally if you have other questions on this.

I am such a Lamo! I just re-read you post, and now see that you are talking about the fob, and not the key itself....sorry.

Good and bad news. I believe you need all of your key fobs to program any new ones or the old ones will not work anymore. As far a programing new keys you have to have the original 2 to program new ones. I highly reccomend you get a few extra and program them asap. If you loose one of the 2 you already have then you can't program any new ones, only the dealer can
