I would like to "hard wire" my Ipod in my 06 OEM stereo but am having a hard time finding the right kit for it.

I have the 6disc AM/FM infiity system. i found one for a 96-04 10 pin chrysler connecter , but discovered the radio programming is different and the adapter i found wont work.

What are you guys useing? I dont wont to change the head unit from OEM and the FM transmitters are very bad due to high signal strength on every channel in my area.

I have the factory Sirus box through the OEM radio now and assume i would have to loose that to make it work through the OEM system.

MOPAR has one listed for $209.00 but the parts guys could not tell me anything about it and did not have it in stock.

thats the one my parts guy was showing me, sounds good but a little short on details. id like to know what im getting b4 dropping 2 bills on a special order.

any one use this part or know how is plugs in and what it controls. if i knew who makes it i could check it out further.

 

pauly, that seems perfect have you got this yet? it seems to work with the factory sirus, is that your understanding?

one of us will have to figure this out. have you found a source for these? they list frys and several local stereo shops. Have you found a price?

 

The HU plays Mp3's. Just throw a hundred or more MP3's on each disc and your good to go. That's over 600 songs!

 

Ya thats an idea........except i have an Ipod and thats what i would like to make work. I have 6000+ songs on my Ipod and i can go to any one at any time.

 

The one thing I hate about my 6 disc infinity sound system, no way to hook up my 80G Ipod. Has anyone used that CHYP adapter??? My Radio has Sirius built in.

 

The only place I have found it is eBay, but I haven't looked anywhere else. They're going for $90-$100. My understanding is it will allow you to use the iPod and Sirius. A lot of the other adapters make you chose one or the other. I just got my first iPod for Christmas (an iTouch - it's really cool!) so I'm just now looking seriously for a solution. But I used a similar setup by a different manufacturer in my wifes 4Runner for a while and it worked great.

 

Pauly were in the same boat, i just got my classic 80G for christmas. Ive been going crazy with tthe downloads. Ive got 10G's on it al ready. Im glad i returned the nano for this one.

Im going to Fry's today to see what the have. Best Buy & Circuit city have no clue, they told me my only choice is to use the FM transmitters.

works with the 6disk nav/sirius factory radio, my only 2 complaints, its a little slow loading the menu, and it erases your radio presets

 

I have the factory one that is wired in and uses fm mod. It seems to do the job. its about 100 bucks. You dont use steering wheel controls for changing ipod.

I have a 2006 2500 "Sport" with Cummins, 4x4, short bed, 4 door. The stereo system is the OEM Nav unit made by Infinity - Model REC (2 Din). I believe this is the only OEM Nav unit available for 2006 trucks.

The cost is $190 plus shipping. This unit contains an Ipod adapter that fits behind the dash (a small metal box) and a wiring harness that connects in-line to the existing radio connections. The connection to your Ipod includes an IPod interface (plugs into the bottom of your Ipod) and an AUX Jack (for a set of head phones or to plug your Ipod into via the head phone connection). Yes - two wires for connections are available as part of this system.

Prior to installing the unit, you need to decide where you want it to be mounted.

Because I don't mess with this type of thing, I took the adapter/harness and truck to a local Al & Ed's (a chain stereo shop). They came recommended. For $130 they installed the adapter. I had them install, leaving the Ipod connection and AUX Jack visible/accessible at the forward part of the center console - in front of the drink holders. While the glove compartment or center console compartments would have been another option, I had it installed where I could use it because I intended to use the Ipod unit to select music. This turned out to be a good decision.

Here's the interesting part. We can all agree that the Ipod itself is easy and fast to use - especially if you have a lot of music on a large (30gig+) Ipod. Well - this system LOCKS your Ipod out. You cannot use your Ipod to select music with this system via the Ipod Interface. All Ipod navigation will be done via the Radio. However, connecting your Ipod to the AUX Jack allows you to use your Ipod to select music. The bad news is that when connected to the AUX Jack, your IPod will not charge. The Ipod will charge only when connected to the Ipod Interface part of the system.

There's more... I have a new 80 gig classic/video Ipod purchased 1/'08. This Ipod will not work connected to the interface. However, my 5th generation 30gig Ipod will work when connected to the interface. I believe the issue here is not software or Ipod generation - the issue is Ipod size. Because navigation, via the Ipod Interface, requires navigation to go through your Radio, the Radio downloads the headings from your Ipod - not the music, but the headings. 80gig is too much for the system to handle. In fact, the User’s Manual to the Interface says that the supported Ipod models are only 4G and 5G models including the nano and mini. So - why does my 30G work? I'm not sure, but it does.

Things I didn't mention... Navigating through the radio when having your Ipod connected to the Ipod Interface, compared to navigating via the Ipod itself, is totally unacceptable. It's slow, slow, slow and you can't quickly move from one artist to another. The only way it will work, IMO, is to use a shorter list of Playlists only. Keep in mind that I have a full 30gig of music on my Ipod. If you have 4 or 5 gig Ipod, this may not be your problem. The other thing I should mention is that in this thread, there is mention that your Presets would be wiped out when using the Ipod. This is not happening to me. I'm using the Ipod via the Adapter or Aux connections and my Preset Radio Stations are intact.

One other thing... this system is working through the Satellite function on your radio. If you're using Sirius, you will have to select one or the other. With the Ipod connnected via either port, the Navigation and Bluetooth Phone work with no problems.

So - how am I using the system? I chose to connect my Ipod to the AUX line rather than the Ipod Interface so that I don't have to use the Radio to Select Music. I'm using the Ipod itself. Again, the downside is that the Ipod will not charge. I can live with this given the alternative. Regarding mounting location, because of the way I'm using the system, I'm happy that the cords are exposed and located at the front of the center console. This way, I have access to the Ipod. If my plan was to use the Ipod Interface, I would have located the cords in the glove compartment because there is no need to have quick access to the Ipod because all navigation is done via the Radio.

All in all, I paid $320 for a system that could have been solved with a $20 Aux jack had Dodge considered our needs. That said, I'm happy to have my Ipod in my vehicle.

There is nothing really to see. The cords simply come from behind the dash and lay in the tray in front of the cup holders. All the other equipment is behind the radio - in the dash.
