Interior Light Timer and Key Warn Timer Question
Interior Light Timer and Key Warn Timer Question
The interior lights and key warning both turn off very quickly now even with the drivers door open.
It never used to do this until about three weeks ago and I can't find anything wrong.
If I open the drivers door, the lights come on for about 10 seconds and then shut off hard (they used to dim down to off). When I shut the door, they turn back on and then immediately dim down to off.
Turning the dash switch to manual on doesn't do anything, they still shut off.
Open another door, same thing, come on for 10 seconds and shut off hard. Close any other door, they turn back on and then immediately dim down to off.
The key minder shuts off with the lights as well.
Everything else seems to operate OK and the truck is STOCK (I know, I know) electrically speaking.
The dealer hasn't touched it with the STAR tool in a long time so can't blame them for anything.
Ideas?

Try disconnecting the negative battery cables on both batteries for 5 or 10 min. then reconnect them and see if your problem is gone. At least if it dosen't work you won't have spent any money and not much effort.
Disconnect batts.
Same thing just happened to mine a couple of months ago. Disconnected the betteries for about a half an hour while I did something else. everything went back to normal and been that way ever since.
Thanks for the battery disconnect suggestions......that worked perfectly.
Gave me another opportunity to put grease on the battery posts and cable terminals since Dodge was stingy with the grease.

There's definitely something "otherworldly" about the timer/relay behavior on these trucks. After the truck sat at the airport for a few days, I noticed after starting the truck that the dome light didn't go off. I drove it home with it on. I tried everything in the manual to get it to go off. It was getting late and I didn't want to wake up to a dead battery, so I just yanked the bulb out (didn't think to disconnect the batteries). Next morning, I put the bulb back, it went on/off normally and never had a problem since. Strange . . .
