Smile Blend Door 2006 2500

Well, I hit 13,000 miles and my dash went pop and the heater blower started vibrating and shaking the dash. Very little air coming out of the ducts.
I pulled out the blower motor and found a plastic and obviously broken end to an activating arm resting inside the squirrel cage, forcing the fan out of balance. I removed the loose part and put it back together. Five minutes spent.
The fan now runs smoothly, but the switch no longer functions that directs the air to the defrost or floor or cabin. No change in any position.
Typical blend door problem.
I took the truck to the dealer and they are working on it this morning.
I asked the service manager if there was a technical service bulletin about this problem and he did some searching. Pretty soon he said there was and if the part broke off of the main housing they would replace the whole thing and not just the door. We will see. Thanks guys for this website. Lesson learned, do your research here before you go to the dealer.

mine freezes up dont know if this is the cause or if it is the blending door. but if i turn off the ac button for 3-5 minutes then turn it back on the door cycles like it should if it freezes up the door in there closes and you can hear the fan on full blast but no air comes out the vents. everytime i go into dodge about it the reset the ac system witht he drb and send me home knuckle heads im out of warranty now 54000 and counting on an 03

Sounds like your recirc door bit the dust like most do. Unplug the fan housing under the glove compartment and remove the three screws to drop the whole assembly. Reach your hand up inside and over the little ledge and I'd bet money you'll find a plastic door just laying there. Pull it out and reinstall the fan and she'll work great. Takes less than 15 mins.

I had the recirc door on my 06 replaced last summer and it's been working fine so far...

My A/C works great - it gets downright cold in the truck on the hiway even in 100 degree temps. I must be lucky...

My 03 was in the dealership @20,000 miles, thes said it had lost its charge.
They said said they replaced the evaporator and some kind of valve, well here I am @ 24000 miles and it lost its charge again. I recharged myself this time.

most dealerships give a 6 month warranty on repairs ? I have had a couple trucks with problem air and seems i was always chasing them to keep air going.

haven't had any issues with my 06 but if it is a 100 degrees outside it is not going to freeze you out even running full blast.

Yes and no.If you had it in under warranty with same issue/complaint you DO have a leg to stand on.Mine has been in about every 6 months since NEW and I've called Chrysler THREE times over two years for them to start and ad to my file and asked for a file/claim number. So far I've NEVER been asked for money and I've have mentioned that I'll stay on this issue until its resolved.

My 06 goes into shop tomorrow, fan blows like hell, but very little comes out of vents, and it nevery has been very cold. I tried to tell them their was something wrong with it last summer, and they gave me the typica run around, and sent me on my way with a shitty ac. What a joke the ac is on these trucks, i have two Ford F250's (96&97) with 130k+ that blow colder than this peice, and they have never been recharged to my knowledge.

To the top.

Mine is going in next week after labor day since my drivers side and passengers side is way different.

Had it in last week and they recharged to 1.88 and now I think it is actually worse.

Any ideas.

Thanks,

Strea

Great-big-juan & Hound Dog,

Mine sounds just like yours. First evap for fin sensor in 2004. New evaporators every year since because the refrigerant leaks out and they can't find where it goes. Keep guessing it's the evap because they can't find dye. Last time I had it in they checked driver's side temps and said "it's fine, no leaks detected". Last week I had almost 20 degrees difference between driver and passenger side. I went to charge and found oil under the high pressure cap. Put in 12 oz of refrigerant (it's still low) and at least the air is cold again.

I'll be calling the dealer again next week.
