I now have frosty A/C on 03

The a/c system on my truck sucked, just like many other Dodge trucks. I was talking to a older guy on the stuff we like and dislike on our CTD dodge, and the a/c came up. He told me that his brother was a a/c wiz, built a/c systems all of is working life, and he was fixing the a/c probs on dodges in his garage.(he has one and hated the a/c). he took me to see him and he said he can have me back on the road in about a day for $900 done(cash) He put in a bigger condenser?(the a/c rad in the front of the truck) and a bigger evep canister?(the round thing in front of the firewall) I dont know alot about the a/c so if I misnamed them, sorry. And he put in some other kind of freon in it to, I did not recognize the name of the stuff, said he can only get it in the states, he put in by-pass valves in the heater hoses the go to the hearter core. in the summer you trun the valves to by-pass the heater core and in the winter turn some more valves so the heater core works. But holy cow now when the a/c is on high it well freeze me out, way to cold on high now, holy cow its cold. I well try to post some pic of his install but cant find the cord to the camera. oh he said that the freon the he used doesnt build up the same presser as r13a?. if that helps you guys out. I did tell him about this site and that ALOT of peaple would love to here what he does and how he does it. He said sure he well get on-line here realy soon to help out on the a/c probs.

Curious on the freon he's using. Some type of R12 substitute?

I realy tried to remeber what he said on all what he did, but most of it just flew over my head. Thats why I told him about this site, so he could explain it. I didnt get a bill with what he did so I had to remeber it all. But I am realy happy with what he did. I just ran to store a 15min drive there in 30c 100f and now befor I get out of my drive its blowing realy cold air, and half way there I now need to turn down the fan. Never got that cold that fast before now, Best money I ever put in the truck. I think the a/c rad came out of a chevy and canister thing a ford. could be mixed up, Both came out of trucks. I wish i could explain it better. My dad thinks he put in r12 in, just becouse on how fast it gets cold and how cold the air is coming out. And for the 900 spent said that he well fix any probs free for as long has he is alive or till he can no longer do the work. Thought that was good to, If true. I think so.

I'd LOVE to get mine fixed but 900 bucks is kind of steep.

Probably R12. Not trying to be a party pooper, just beware that what you have in your AC system now might very well be illegal.

People often say Freon when they mean refrigerant. Kind of like saying Kleenex when you mean tissue. There are many types of refrigerants. While I am by no means an expert on the subject, I've talked to some experts and they say that some of the industrial refrigerants would do a much better job than the stuff we get in our vehicles. Mine works good enough to suit me, but if it didn't, I'd be looking for a guy like your new friend.

A friend of mine was an HVAC R&D person with a big firm in Atlanta. He used to play with the A/C in his car all the time. I think he even used home A/C refrigerant in it (R22 I think). Anyhow, his system was like a meat locker! Incredible how well it worked.
