Just started a week ago. When in reverse one day the horn went off a few times while backing up. Did it again in reverse a few days later.

I am puzzled?????

 

was your door open? theres been a few threads about this and its the idea of a genius at D.C. to cause the horn to blow when placed in reverse with the door open and seatbelt un-buckled. its not like people like to back up to trailers or back trailers with their doors open

Plug the male side of the Seatbelt for the center passenger into the female side of the drivers seat.

The only people who do that don't have any business pulling a trailer.

 

this is an off statement, I agree, on the initial back up I leave my door closed, but when i get close, I put it in park and have a looksie, then leave my door open and back up 2-6 inches whatever is needed to line ball up with the hitch...

 

thank you. when i get about a foot or less from the trailer i can look at the ground and judge my distance better than getting in and out checking the distance. and i would be unhappy if i went to far and banged up my bumper

So your saying you have never got out of your rig to look and see if you need another inch or two and then did the final adjusting with the door open.... I have to call bull.... on that one. I can do it on my 5th wheel but not bumper pull. And if you do you got lucky. Jmo

 

Other than the seatbelt trick, has anyone been successfull at getting this "feature" disabled?

 

Put a switch on one of the horn wires. I also placed an LED in the circuit to remind me I have the horn switched off.

Hey Faulkner, come on over to my place and lets see you get a trailer in my backyard without needing to open the door. Dont assume everyone has the same entry into the backyard you apparently do

this happened to me this morning while backing up... i thought my alarm was going haywire... it honked about 3-4 times while backing up.

 

What does opening up the door have to do with lining up a ball hitch? Do you have the neck of a giraffe and can see around the bed? My guess is no! I'm not sure about your truck, but mine came with these 3 shiny things called mirrors. I can also turn my head and look out any of the windows to judge distance. Yes the horn honk thing is stupid and it's DC's way of putting a Band-Aid on the real problem of the linkage and the valve body.

My pleasure. Here's a video for you. Make sure and notice that none of these guys open their doors. But let me guess backing your camper into your backyard is WAY more difficult than backing a semi trailer at high speed through a narrow set of cones. I bet if this guy opened his door he could breeze right around that corner I bet he takes the door off to back that up!

 

Apples to oranges.... Backing a trailer has nothing to do with having the door open nor does it have anything to do with this thread. It is about backing a truck up to HITCH up a trailer. As stated earlier you cannot see the tounge and have to get out to judge where you are so you don't run into it.
