Help Me Decide

This is another tire thread sorry
I have narrowed my choice down to two: toyo open country m/t and nitto terra grappler a/t both 295/70/17. I do mostly road driving and hardly any off road. I do need good snow traction beacuse i live in the mountains. I really dont need the m/t but i really like the look, should i buy the tire just for looks. Guys help me pick one

I've been very happy with the Grappler's on my old trucks. They are a very good all-around tire. I have Mud Terrain's on my truck now because they came with it. They look really good, but they are noisy and ride rough.

I have Toyo's and couldn't be happier. If you are doing mostly road driving I would recommend the Open Country AT's. I have lived in the Rockies and Saskatchewan my entire life so obviously have done a fair bit of driving in the snow and ice. MT's of any kind are not designed for cold weather and slippery conditions. My 2 cents.

For an agressive tread pattern the M/T is suprisingly quiet. They also provide decent tread life and are actually not bad in the snow. I bought the Toyo AT's and if I had it to do over I would go with the M/T's.

Good Luck.

Do the Toyo AT's have the severe weather rating like the Nittos and BFG AT's?

I had a hard time finding M/T's when I got mine too. I ended up getting them from East Coast Tires and having them shipped to me. They are VERY quiet for a mud type tire, and took very little weight to balance. Not sure on snow performance since I haven't had them very long.

tires

have you herd/thought about the 285/75/17 toyo A/Ts? they are a good size and10 ply E rated. taller than the 285/70 but not as big as a 35 also the tread is a little deeper than the nittos. i had the 295/70 T/Gs on my 05 and they were ok but these are the bomb from an all around perspective. 200.00 a piece on 1010tires.com.

I just finished beating myself in the head for a month on this same decision, and PM'ed a ton of guys on here getting opinions and pics. I almost went with the 305/70 T/G's, but at the last minute went with the Toyo 285/75/17. I got them installed local for the same price shipped as 1010 tire. To me it looks perfect, fills the wheelwell w/o the overkill. Rides great, and the additional hieght adds just enough to make the cummins sound better coming off a light. I am really glad I spent the extra cash for the Toyo.
