Have to say goodbye . . .
Have to say goodbye . . .
Taking old "stud" out for his last romp on the highways with me tonight. Traded him in on a shiny new 07, 6.7L, 6spd Auto, 4:10 rear, exhaust brake & loaded Laramie. Going to the dealer in VA to pick it up Friday after I get back. Don't want some dealer jockey retrieving it from over 200 miles away. Have been trying for 2 weeks to replace the truck in my sig with an 07 version with the 5.9 - hah NO luck. So Out With The Old and In with The New. 2010 EPA Standards here I come!!
Good luck. I hope my 04.5 provides the long service yours did. Mine has only 30,000 miles, and, barring unforseen circumstances (knock wood), I plan on having it many years.
P.S. - I'm not to far from you in West Chester. I'm guessing you're going to VA because the crook dealers in our area either did not have a truck, or were unwilling to budge on price?

Good luck with the new truck!! Congrats! I still think you had many many more great miles left in the old one if you would just replace that trans with an aftermarket one. (DTT, Goerends etc.)
How many miles did you end up with on it?? Over 300K right?

Picked up the new work horse. Pics in my gallery, I think. The color is going to have to grow on me. I still like black.
Now onto the 300 mile ride home in the new wheels. Right now, I love, no wait, I LOVE the new 6 spd. auto. A little weird just having the D selection on the dash. Got to play with the tow/haul and the, can't remember the name of it, on the shift lever to increase or decrease the shift points. Fantastic, now I'm back in charge, even with an auto. Also, 75 m.p.h. = 2k r.p.m. in OD with the 4:10's. Right where my 04.5 got the best fuel mileage so we'll see how well this works. Kinda makes the aftermarket overdrive units I was considering obsolete.
And the exhaust brake. Outstanding!! Although I would've never ordered one or had one installed on a pickup this thing is GREAT!! Sounds just like a big rig too, if that's what you want.
So even though I didn't get all that I wanted and I got more than I would've ordered, I'm pretty happy about going with the new rather than trying to hold onto to a dying past. Looking for 200k somewhat trouble-free miles with this one. Maiden trip is Sunday night, 1300 mile turn.
Retired Stud I (04.5) @ 330K miles in 2.5 years. Wish I had the money to buy him back as he is a "screamin' running" truck. If fixed up and used normally, he could probably last another 200k or even 5 years easy.

Well judging by so many miles in such a short time you've got to be a hotshotter
. This is a good thing for us here on the DTR, is to see how the 6.7 and new trans will perform on the long runs, to see what will be possibly weak points to watch for. I hope you have the best of luck with the new ride and congrats.
