Grid Heater Delete Question
Upon installation of my new injectors I decided I wanted to do away with my grid heater. I replaced the grid plate with an open design...the kind that you can buy all day long...and removed all the wiring back to the solenoids and then unplugged the solenoids......system taken care of right? Wrong. This morning I went to leave work and when I started the truck the volt gauge dropped back to around 11v like the grid was running. Why? It stayed that way for a couple of minutes just like it would when the thing was hooked up and functional and then it started showing a charge. Is there anything else I need to remove?

20* this morning and it fired right up no problem. Gauge does still show like the grid is operating but I just quit worrying about it. Had some soft codes about battery temp sensor low and intake temp sensor low or something of that nature.
Other than that I'm a happy camper.

I always wondered about the gauge behaving like that. The best I could come up with is that the voltage regulator was somehow controlled to not allow the alternator to charge the batteries while the heater was energized. Presumably, because some harm to something would result. If the gauge is just smoke and mirrors like jballou says, the question still remains, why does it display like it does.
Anyway, I think it's weird.
