Is anyone out there not running their grid heater? I'm thinking that thing kills airflow to the motor. What are your opinions on this subject? Thanks.

I wouldnt in the winter!

The ones on my 2001 didnt work, (wires where unplugged or sumething like that! Truck started kinda hard when temps went as low as -10°C to -15°C

Of all the junk parts I've taken off mine, the grid heater is definately NOT one of them!

a grid heater is not something I would go with out here in MN even when I am back home in utah it kicks in alot. the beast will fire when it's cold but with out it it sure sounds nasty. with ideas like this you could add Take the turbo off because it restircts the exhaust flow out of the motor try that one on for size. I am not trying to pick on you with that one but there are some things that are just ment to be left on.

on a race/competetion only rig if you are searching for every possible CFM then it might not hurt...but on any street driven truck you will not see any gains or benefits from removing it, and it will seriously hurt you when it comes time to start the truck in temps any colder than say 60 degrees

my buddy has a 95 and his isn;t working and it starts fine when its cold. we can not find out why its not working. could it be the solinoids are bad or not.

mine is comeing off as soon as i make my twin ram setup. But I have an espar hooked up, -2 out side, truck starts just like in summer heat right away and the thermostat cycling in 2miles, no rattles, just like in summer. I love this thing.

OK, so most say that taking the grid heater off is a bad idea, but is it just that? Has anyone dyno'd their rig with and without? I think with a better intake and no grid heater one would see lower EGT's and more throttle reponse.

Winters here aren't that harsh (around 20 degrees at the lowest) and summers are brutal hot (around 115 degrees at the highest). I plug my truck in every night anyways, and the grid heater stays on for 2 seconds at most. Just an idea.

Anyone know "MADDOG" Richard Madson? He has a green 4 door F350 with a 12 valve putting out over 1000 HP. The other day it was down in the 20's and his truck fired on the first try with no grid heater or plugged in. So I wonder if the gains would be beneficial?? I'm going to try as soon as Richard gets his dyno fired up. I'll let you know how it goes.

Curently my 12V doesnt have the grid heaters working. The truck starts just fine till the 30 degree mark. Below that she starts to shake really bad for a minute or two and blows some serious white smoke. Using the block heater all night helps. I do plan on fixing them before the dead of winter!!

maddog has a custom air horn intake setup that is much bigger then the heater grids. to bad you are so far away, other wise i could find you a custom one for your truck. any time you can make your intake flow better, the better off you are. next you should up grade the intercooler. just my 2 cents

I sure hate the way mine cycles off and on and makes my lights dim and loads the alternator. Wish there was someway to kill them.

I hadn't worried about it too much, but now it makes sense.

Power by poole sells a power block if you want to replace the grid heater with bling =P
