I hope you get a good one. I've personally seen 3 of them fail due to heat. One went back to Dodge and the other 2 upgraded to LBZ's with no problems doing the same work with the new trucks as the 05's did. FIL has a 2003 LB7 and it is a sweet truck. No problems at all.

put an aftermarket turbo on or learn to love a roaring fan/hot temps if you tow heavy in the hot summer.

Thumbs up

Better listen to DurototheMax, he seems to know more about these trucks than anyone, on any site. I like the DMax, or at least the one I drove? probably a 2005 st. drive. Very comfortable, good power. I would own one. Good luck and enjoy your truck, hope you have good luck with it.

I think you'll be happy with the D-Max. They seem to be a very comfortable and get great fuel mileage. Just couldn't stand the IFS front end and how the front rake of the truck seems to sag after a few years.

Offroad unlimited has torsion bar cogs that can help in that department. Or you could build an IFS truck the right way, by removing all that crud and using one of their kits to swap in a straight axle.

I agree!! My buddy has a 04' Dmax and i like it alot, but the IFS just shouldnt be in a heavy duty 4X4 IMO! But they can be made stronger with the center link and tierod sleves(a must for sled pullin). Love the seats in them but i have to admit my truck rides alot better!
But i still think you will love it so good luck and keep us posted on what ya think of it!!

Well, I was a chevy diesel man from 98(yes 6.5) to 05. I bought the new 6.6 lb7 in 01 then 2 03s with the lb7, then the last, an 05 lly. It was the worst engine ever, overheating, really bad fuel eco, codes left and right etc. Thats when I bought my Dodge. Good luck with it.

well im not sure where you get the idea of not feeling right but its your truck and your money. the guy who built your old tranny has trucks holding 950hp (greyrig). mine holds 700hp. I think the allison is a joke but thats my thoughts. enjoy your new duramax

Good point Jesse! No offense, but DTR Member CTDowerTN needs to go talk to Buck Spruill about his DHRA Drag Race Duramax and why he PULLED OUT the Allison 1000 in favor of the Dodge 47RE!!

my buddy has a d-max- doing anything to that engine takes at least twice as long than doing the same thing to my 5.9-reason why?? lack of space. i can pull my turbo off in a couple of hours. book time on the d-max is something like 8 hours or more. i'll keep my dodge!!
